WHALLEY PICKWICK GEARS UP TO CHRISTMAS AND SUPPORTS LOCAL TABLE TENNIS CLUB

Funds raised from Whalley Pickwick Festival 2011, have been used to support the Whalley Table Tennis Club. £500 was donated to help the club support their youth development, and purchase new training equipment.

A Table Tennis Ball machine, often known as a table tennis robot was purchased by the funds donated by the Whalley Pickwick Committee during the summer. The table tennis club currently supports 6 teams in the East Lancs Table Tennis League. Players start at 12 years of age, and they play alongside senior players at the club, the eldest being 82 years. Neil Martin the Chair of the Whalley Pickwick Committee was recently invited by the table tennis club to witness the commission of the Table Tennis Robot, and show a demonstration of its training capabilities.

Neil Martin comments “It is a pleasure to be able to support a local sporting initiative, and help the young and older people of Whalley have the facility to take up indoor sporting activities which is lacking in the local area”. Eric Ronnan a senior member of the team said “This piece of equipment encourages young participation in the sport, and then allows them to engage with developing their table tennis skills. Without this training machine, young participants are moving out of the borough to train on other equipment supplied by other clubs and teams”.

The Whalley Pickwick Committee is a voluntary run organisation, who arranges and hosts the Famous Pickwick Night Festivities .This year’s event is being held on the 6th December in Whalley. Any profit made on the night and other various fundraising activities are put back into the local community, through good causes and local good needs.
