WHALLEY PICKWICK HELPS LOCAL TOTS GROUP WITH NEW TOYS AND EQUIPMENT

Funds raised from Whalley Pickwick Festival 2011, have been used to support Langho Tots Group. £500 was donated to help the group purchase new equipment and toys for local tots who attend the weekly sessions at the Parish Centre at St Mary’s Church on York lane in Langho.

The group was started 5 years ago by Liz Harrison, who could not find a mother and baby group locally in Langho. She started the weekly sessions in the Parish Centre at St Marys Langho, where a few mothers and toddlers would meet up and have the opportunity for the mothers to spend fun and time with their children over a coffee. The group has significantly grown over the years, and the Whalley Pickwick Committee are delighted to offer the group some financial support to purchase new toys, games and equipment for the children to use at the group.

Neil Martin the Pickwick Committee Chairman visited the tots group recently to see how the donation has been used. He was delighted to see the new equipment being used which included Wheely Bugs, A Wooden Kitchen Set and Play Food, A Train and Track Table, Various Puzzles, Hammer Bench and a Fire-Fighter Outfit.  Neil comments “It is a pleasure to be able to support such a lively and engaging toddler group locally in the Ribble Valley. This group is self-funded by the parents who use this facility and it’s great to see so many children benefiting from the new equipment purchased from funds raised from Pickwick Night in 2011”. Liz Harrison said “The kind donation has allowed the group to invest in engaging and educational equipment which will last for many years to come. The word has gone out over the summer that we have been able to invest in new things, and numbers attending have increased since, which is good news. It’s also great to see the children develop within the group, and I was moved in September to see one of our first tots start school next door”.

The Whalley Pickwick Committee is a voluntary run organisation, who arranges and hosts the Famous Pickwick Night Festivities .This year’s event is being held on the 6th December in Whalley.  Any profit made on the night and other various fundraising activities are put back into the local community, through good causes and local good needs. The Langho Tot Group meets each Monday between 9:30am and 11:30am at The Parish Centre at St Marys Church on York Lane, Langho.
