Westerman Studios were established in Ann Arbor in 1909 when Kenneth Neville Westerman came to Ann Arbor to attend what was then the University Music School and the University of Michigan. Kenneth N. taught until his death in 1955.
The studio moved with his private residence to many different locations including Ann Arbor, Alpena, Adrian, Waco Texas, Washington DC, to a set of rooms on the second floor of the building which currently houses the "M Den" at 215 South State in Ann Arbor, and finally to its current location at 715 Granger Ave in Ann Arbor.
Rose Kidman Westerman, Kenneth N.'s first wife taught with Kenneth N. from their marriage until her death in 1945.
Kenneth N's daughter Jean Westerman Gregg taught with her father after her graduation from high school until her marriage to Robert Gregg in 1951. She opened her own studio in Smoke Rise, New Jersey at that time and then taught in Woodbridge, Connecticut until her death in 2013.
Carol Fjelstad Westerman, Kenneth N.'s second wife taught from their marriage in 1947 until her death in 1995.
Kenneth Roger Westerman began teaching in Ann Arbor when he returned to Ann Arbor after graduating from Yale in 1971.
Cherry Whitcomb Westerman, Kenneth R.'s wife, began teaching following her graduation from the University of Michigan in 1976.
