I believe that my passion for teaching and mentoring, leadership skills, and desire for student success, combined with my versatility and adaptability makes me an excellent addition to any school district.
I believe all students can succeed. I have high expectations for all students and create an atmosphere of trust and respect for learning in my classroom. I use formative and summative assessments along with conferring with students to monitor their progress. I identify the strengths and weaknesses students have and differentiate my teaching to meet the needs of all students making sure I address the spectrum from the struggling to gifted students.
I believe that being an effective school leader requires having a goal with the end in mind, creating a shared vision, developing and implementing a plan, and developing a team that puts the plan into action. The end result is to impact student learning. Impacting student learning begins with impacting the adults that teach the students.
I believe that high expectations need to be set for both staff and students, but not high pressure. Innovative approaches to teaching and the curriculum are critical. The staff and students are highly engaged in the learning process. There needs to be personal growth opportunities for the staff and students with various resources available for achieving the growth. Diversity among staff and students should be recognized and celebrated.
I personally had the opportunity to take part in creating and implementing a vision and goal at NHI while serving on the curriculum committee for reading and writing and seventh grade leadership team. I understand the ups and downs of implementing goals and moving a staff forward. This type of work continued at Merton Community School District where I served as the District Literacy Coordinator.
