Teaching Experience

My teaching philosophy has been strongly influenced by the communication with my students. During my teaching experience with diverse undergraduates and graduate students, there is a common opinion that mathematics is a boring and useless subject. A large number of students only registered compulsory mathematical courses and did not work hard to study it. Under this condition, they meet troubles in their field later, because of the shortage of mathematical knowledge. Even worse, some graduate students have to give up seeking further academic path, as a result of the poor performance in mathematics cannot prove their rigorous and mathematical thinking method. This awful phenomenon forces me to think about what’s the neglects during teaching.

To explain this, I describe the learning new knowledge as the process of climbing a mountain. As we all known, teacher should show the destination to their students, guide them and tell them where to set their steps. However, two essential factors are ignored, MOTIVATION and ACTION. Motivation is the reason for students to pay attention, time and energy on this hard and long-term study. Action is the only way for students to gain a new knowledge and skill. If a student is not eager to study hard-working, the student cannot get anything. I believe that learning actively and motivated is the most effective way for students.
