2025 Wayzata High School Girls’ Swim and Dive Team
As a member of the Wayzata High School Girls’ Swim and Dive Team, you have an obligation to the team, your teammates, the coaches and most importantly, yourself. We ask the following of you to assure that we can be as successful as possible and make sure each student-athlete has an enjoyable experience with the team. What is expected of you as a team member?
Practice Expectations:
Show up for every practice; this includes Saturdays. If you need to be absent or late for a practice or competition, let Ridley know ahead of time. You can reach her at 612-801-7243 or sara.ridley@wayzataschools.org. You must notify her prior to the practice you will miss. School (which will require a pass from a teacher), illness, or family emergencies are excused. Work conflicts, haircuts, dentist, vacations, senior photos, college visits, etc. are unexcused, and may result in being held out of a meet and compromise your lettering status (refer to the lettering policy, located under “2025 Season Info”, for details).
Be at the pool on time. We have 2 hours to practice every day. Please be in your proper attire (suit or appropriate dryland attire, etc.) and ready at the designated time.
Be in the weight room dressed for dryland workout on time and ready to go.
We expect you to not only attend all practices, but to put forth your best effort. This season will be fun and challenging, but when we ask you to give 100%, we expect you to give 100%.
Respect your facility. We are privileged to have a great facility to practice and compete in. Keep it clean (towels, lockers, showers, toilets, pool deck, etc.)
Respect your coaches and your teammates. If the coaches are talking, you are not. Show up, work hard, have fun and we will all be successful. (Any behavior considered hazing or harassing, which includes cyberbullying, will face team, MSHSL and WHS consequences; captains will lose leadership role).
Meet Expectations:
If possible, we will ride the bus to the meet.
Only quiet devices allowed on bus. Sit down, study, talk, but keep the noise level low.
Cheer on your teammates. All athletes will be expected on the pool deck during competitions. Athletes will NOT be in the stands, locker rooms, talking to friends, parents, etc. Likewise, friends and family must remain in the stands until the end of the competition. Be a teammate and cheer each other on! "WE before me"
Respect opponents. Whether we are home or away, we represent Wayzata and thus, must remain respectful and courteous. Also, treat their facilities as you do your own. Keep our area clean.
Other Expectations:
Illegal drugs, tobacco, and alcohol are not permitted in or out of season. Athletes caught using or associated with any of the above substances will face MSHSL, WHS and team consequences (captains will face loss of leadership role and athletes will lose letter).
Be respectful and responsible on social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) with teammates, opponents, coaches, classmates, etc.
Maintain good standing and follow all rules at school (no suspensions, detentions, etc.)
Keep up with schoolwork/homework
Stay Healthy: get to bed early, eat nutritious food, etc.
Bring any issues or concerns to your captains or coaches
Captains’ Expectations:
Lead by example. Captains not only promote the above expectations to their teammates, they practice them as well. They are expected to follow and promote the above expectations year-round (this includes before, during and after the season).
Communicate all issues/questions to coaches. If you or anyone else is having a problem, notify the coaches so they can handle the situation.
Treat all team members with equal respect. Captains are advocates for all of their teammates, and will care for each teammate the same.
Consequences for failure to meet these expectations may result in the removal from practice, meets, the captainship role or the team altogether.
As a member of this team we ask you to sign below, thus accepting and following all expectations. Consequences for failure to meet the expectations may result in the removal from practice, meets, lettering, the captainship role, or the team altogether. Violations and their consequences will be decided by the Coaches and Athletics Directors. Please have this signed and handed into the coaches by Monday, August 18, 2025.
