Giant Hogweed Mitigation Project Community - Facebook Group

The "Giant Hogweed Mitigation Project Community Facebook Group" is established to share info about giant hogweed along the shores of the Grand River and its tributaries.

Giant hogweed information, and information about how to control it is contained in the discussions here. The premise of this project is that we - as a community - can arrest the spread of this hazardous and poisonous plant and keep the river banks friendly and safe.

To date only a few locations have been identified. We hope to reduce this to near zero while spending quality time on our beautiful river.

Please recommend this Facebook Group to your river-side neighbours so that we can build a community.

Our goal is to help each other in this battle. By collecting information about the location and quantity of the plants we can determine the source of the seeds and then plan the best methods for control.

The primary task is to safely locate the plants by landowners and by volunteers. Removal will be dealt with by trained personnel later.

County staff are on-board with this approach. They don't want to issue 'weed control orders' they do want to partner with us to reduce the nasty weed populations.

Hunt events will be occurring in mid April through mid May.
