This amazing exhibition of German wartime vehicles in the desert caused a lot of controversy. Some local Church leaders and the Chamber of Commerce were appalled by this display and after much publicity the decision was made to remove it and, as several tonnes of sand were already on the showroom floor, Hugh decided to turn it into a beach scene which he quickly painted!

The Wimbledon Tretorn Exhibition. This exhibition in March 1976 featured a marvellous background of centre court at Wimbledon which coincided with the start of Wimbledon and also the collection by the Tretorn Company of a fleet of Volkswagen Golfs which they were going to use at Wimbledon fortnight. The showroom displayed tennis clothes, shoes, raquets and golfing equipment made by Tretorn Ltd of Sunbury
