In May 1976 our new managing director Hugh Ruding-Bryan arranged for the the workshop was closed for the day and it was spruced up with a lick of paint. The whole building was cleaned and awnings erected along the forecourt for a grand open day with customers and guests invited in the evening. Celebribrities were also invited. All staff leave was cancelled and everybody had a good time including the Morris Dancers.
Open Day 1976
The display of Bliss and Co Leathergoods took place in October 1976. The management were by now beginning to tire from the effort of Hugh's displays as they seemed to be coming one after the other. The hire of the train from BBRK at Shepperton Studios was a very heavy and difficult project which some of us thought impossible. However, together with the loan of equipment from British Rail it turned out to be the most fantastic of all Hugh's showroom exhibitions. The view from the road at night was quite extraordinary- some drivers might have thought they were passing the station!

To provide a bit of interest a beetle body was supported in the air on high axle stands over the chassis together with it's seats.
In 1977 The "Polos for Beetles" campaign was launched in an attempt to get our customers to part exchange their Beetles for the relatively new water cooled Polo.
The Skateboard sale
Later in 1977 was the Skateboard Sale which not only attracted a lot of skateboards but a lot of interest from the youngsters and a certain member of the management team. Mind you he could never do this:-
