In Pack 465, the costs are:
Boy Scouts of America National Capital Council dues (for insurance, affiliation, etc.) = $200 annually
Pack dues = $55 annually
Uniforms = approximately $60 (the belt, shirt, and pants can often be worn more than one year)
Guidebooks = $15
Special activities = approximately $20 annually
Council dues cover the Cub Scout Pack registration and insurance with Boy Scouts of America. Pack dues cover the main costs of Pack activities such as Blue and Gold Banquet, Pinewood Derby kits, Rocket kits, and other Pack activities.
Please contact the Cub Scout Master (cubmaster@pack465.org) if these costs would be prohibitive to your child’s participation in Scouting. Scholarships may be available.
Cub Scouts is not a drop off activity. Parents or the Cub Scout’s “Adult” will be expected to participate in most events with your Scout. This is especially the case in the Lion (K), Tiger (1st gr.), Wolf (2nd gr.), and Bear (3rd gr.) Dens. Cub Scouts is an opportunity to spend time with your child doing fun activities, often outdoors, that instill a sense of accomplishment in the Scout and develops goodwill with fellow Scouting families.
Parents are encouraged to volunteer for roles in the child's Den such as Leader or Co-Leaders, Treasurer, or activity/event organizer, etc.
Many Dens use a cooperative-style of leadership, where a Den Leader formally organizes the group and a parent or pairs of parents will lead an activity for one or two Den meetings per year. The Den Leader and parents can discuss the rank requirements and what opportunities might match a parent-leader’s skills or interests.
Pack 465 is 100% volunteer organized and led. Cub Scouts cannot function without your help. Remember – many hands make for light work!
The Cub Scout Guidebook for each rank is a necessary part of Scouting. The book outlines the requirements for each beltloop and award, and provides the Scout and parents with helpful content to support their Scout on their Adventures.

The online Scout Shop is another good resource for uniforms, guidebooks.
We wear uniforms in Scouts for a variety of reasons, but the most important: we are a team! When we gather to learn and have fun, the uniform is a clear symbol of the team. The uniform is a reminder that our similarities which bring us together in bonds of friendship, fun, and service to the community.
The uniform also provides a canvas to show each Scout's personal awards and achievements such as patches and belt loops.
Cub Scout uniform shirts are approximately $30, along with a hat $15, neckerchief $9, and slide $6. Each year, you upgrade your child's book, hat, neckerchief and slide. The Pack often has hand-me-downs of many of these items, so please ask your Den Leader.
The Boy Scouts of America Shop on Rockville Pike is a great resource. Materials can also be ordered online or via telephone.
