I was a bit surprised to hear Gordon so well on 2m SSB not long ago. Now after looking at the path profile I think I know the reason for the good propagation: so-called knife-edge diffraction. The radio wave scatters at sharp peaks and this is what seems a characteristic of this radio path. The Tx, Rx details may not be 100% correct but for the purpose of this link calc it is sufficient. The calculation relates to tropospheric direct propagation on the basis of Fresnel theory - so it certainly does not take into account the actual mode - namely: knife-edge diffraction. Without the enhancement via the terrain peaks, there would not be such a reliable link between Gordon and me.
