Course Description:
This class has been designed for art students that have already taken 2D and 3D Art, and want to seriously push themselves to grow as artists. An Advanced Art student is expected to work independently and at a higher level. The level of quality, craftsmanship, and complexity is expected to be more advanced. The only firm due date is the end of the semester so students must manage their time wisely.
Total Grade:
100% Projects, Sketches and Weekly Check-Ins
Most projects will be graded in these five general categories: concept and design, craftsmanship, project completion, inventiveness, and knowledge of the elements and principles of art.
Units of Study:

Late Work Policy:
A half point will be deducted for each day your assignment is late. I accept all late assignments until the end of each quarter or a date shortly before the end of that quarter. All projects must be turned in in the basket on the back counter and not just left on a shelf, at home, on the bus, in the car… I will give partial credit for work that is turned in but not completed. I will give a zero for a project that was not begun, was barely begun, or does not meet the goals I set for the assignment.
Absences:
If you are sick, stay home! It is an excused absence so I will not take points off for a project being late. If you are excused sick two days, you get two additional days to complete an assignment. You will still be expected to turn in all other assignments that come after your excused sick days on the assigned due dates.
Classroom Expectations:
Please use hand sanitizer or wash your hands when appropriate.
Please wear your mask responsibly. It must cover the entire lower half of your face and your nose at all times.
You will reuse the same supplies each day. If you are completely done with something, place it in the “Used” box so I can quarantine and sanitize it.
Take care of your project, supplies and table. Store your supplies and project in the designated area. Use supplies safely and do not take anything that does not belong to you - this includes pencils, pens, and erasers. You are being disrespectful if you leave a mess for me to clean up (like globs of paint or clay in the sink).
If you need to blow your nose, please go to the clay room or middle school classroom to do it.
Please let me know if you leave the classroom for any reason.
I expect you to be respectful of your classmates’ space, materials, artwork, and opinions.
I tolerate drinks in the Art Room as long as you do it responsibly. Beverages should be in a sealed container to help avoid spills.
Keep your phone in your locker. If it becomes a problem, I will take your phone and you can pick it up from Mr. Cress later. You can get a chromebook from the library to look up reference images, but I do not want you to copy someone else’s artwork that you find on the internet. There is a difference between being inspired by another artist and copying or stealing something in order to pass it off as your own (plagiarism.)
Keep hats in your locker.
Put your projects and supplies away in a storage room or cabinet. I cannot guarantee their safety if you leave them out on a table or counter. Take care of your work.
This is not a study hall for other classes or a social time. You need to show me that you are serious about creating artwork by being on task at all times.
