Welcome to the website of the VIII EMEP - World Meeting on Teaching Portuguese! (#VIIIEMEP), organized by the AOTP - American Organization of Teachers of Portuguese. The next meeting will take place on the 9th and 10th of August, 2019 at Princeton University.

The VIII EMEP is an event dedicated to the teaching of Portuguese. It brings together professionals from all over the world and promotes collaborative and cooperative work among them. The meeting is also a space where new resources and materials are presented by editors, instructors, and researchers in the area. This year, the VIII EMEP will have specialized lectures, roundtables and workshops on new and innovative strategies for teaching and learning Portuguese. The research presented in the VIII EMEP will be published in a book, after texts are submitted to double-blind peer-review.

To participate in the event, you need to join AOTP.

Anyone interested in presenting educational material (books, videos, software, etc.) or advertising the program of the event, please contact us directly by email info@emepsite.com.

The EMEP began as an event organized by the AOTP - American Organization of Teachers of Portuguese integrated in the 2012 FOCUS Brazil USA program, held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. FOCUS has several international editions, including in the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan, which for a week bring together events focused on the Brazilian arts, culture, business, sports, and tourism, and is held by and for the communities of the Brazilian diaspora around the world.

With the growing interest in the EMEP, AOTP and FOCUS Brazil decided to organize the meeting autonomously. In 2014, the EMEP was held at Columbia University in New York; Georgetown University in Washington DC hosted the fourth edition in 2015; in 2016 it was at the University of California, Berkeley, CA; in 2017 at Florida International University, FL; in 2018 at the University of Pittsburgh, PA; and in 2019 will be held at Princeton University, NJ.
