Recording equipment

2 camcorders are needed - for recording of a picture for left and right eye separatelly.

Those camcorders must be synchronized, i.e. to record the same frame at exactly the same time moment.

This can be achieved by 3 ways:

1. professional - GenLock input

This function is not available on commercial camcorders, only professional studio models (8.000 USD and more) are equipped with Genlock input.

2. synchronization on camcorder startup (power on) - ONLY Sony camcorders using LANC Shepherd

Cameras are synchronized on startup (power on), but usually after several minutes they will get mis-synced, so they need to be started up and re-synced again. Not 100% comfortable but working. Based on info on internet, it can be used with most of Sony cameras with LANC input.

Special equipment is needed - LANC Shepherd (see e.g. http://www.berezin.com/3D/Lanc/index.html)

3. permanent camcorder synchronization - ONLY Sony camcorders using 3D-LANC Master

Some older model of Sony camcorders can be synchronized permanently using "closed loop internal clock frequency modification".

This is described here: http://dsc.ijs.si/3dlancmaster/

Special equipment is needed - 3D-LANC Master.

Fortunately, the author (Damir Vrancic) put on his pages also electronic schema and software, so any electonic fan can build it by himself (and maybe it is also available on internet commercially).

BUT: this method works ONLY with some selected older Sony models - listed here http://dsc.ijs.si/3dlancmaster/Supported/default.htm.

I.e. Canon, Panasonic, JVC, etc. do not allow 3D-video synchronization ... a pity :-(
