Janis Smits

Janis graduated with honors from the University of Latvia in 2016 and defended his PhD in 2020. His master's thesis was on imaging of magnetic micro and nanoparticles with a layer of NV centers in diamond as well as characterizing the T1 times of diamond samples irradiated with different doses of electrons. In his thesis he showed that deconvolution procedures could enhance the quality of obtained magnetic field images. Janis joined Victor Acosta’s lab at University of New Mexico-CHTM in 2016 and began working on improving the spectral resolution of NV nuclear magnetic resonance detection. Janis continued as a postdoc in the lab beginning in February 2020.
