“I believe the future for Solar Energy is bright ”
"मेरा मानना है कि सौर ऊर्जा का भविष्य उज्ज्वल है"
Organic Photovoltaics (OPV) is a third-generation photovoltaic technology using carbon based organic materials (conductive polymers and small molecules) to harvest energy from sun. The OPV are comprised of several layers including a photo-active layer and sandwiched between two electrode layers. These organic materials are efficient light absorbers ( having high absorption coefficient) and their optical properties can be easily tuned by chemical synthesis.
OPV technology can be fabricated on plastic substrates, which enables devices that are thin, light-weight, flexible and even transparent, which expands the Freedom of Design of OPV and it can be adapted to almost any surface. They also can be produced by a roll-to-roll process using printing methods, which consumes less energy than crystalline silicon PV technology as well as being low cost & high throughput.
Scientists from several German research institutes, as well as South China University of Technology, have set a new efficiency record for an organic PV module. The group demonstrated a 12 cell, 26cm² module with an efficiency of 12.6%. The results have been confirmed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems.
