Vishal Bharti is currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Electronics under the Higher Education Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, and is presently posted at Government Degree College Bhaderwah. He completed his Ph.D. from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) at the CSIR–National Physical Laboratory (NPL), New Delhi, in 2017. He subsequently pursued postdoctoral research at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India (2017–2018), Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), Seoul, South Korea (2018), and the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal (2019–2021). He has over eight years of extensive research experience in the field of photovoltaics, with his work primarily centred on the development, optimization, and exploration of emerging solar photovoltaic technologies through both experimental investigations and simulation-based studies.

The objective of my dissertation was to enhance the power conversion efficiency of Bulk-Heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells (OSCs) by broadening the absorption spectrum in a single junction based OSCs. This was achieved by blending of two different polymers having complementary absorption spectrum. I have used dual donor (PTB7 and PCDTBT) based ternary blend BHJ organic solar cells approach to obtain high performance. This approach benefits both the enhanced spectral absorption range for efficient photon harvesting and simplicity of fabrication conditions that is used in single junction BHJ-OSCs. I have explored the dynamics of excitons in dual donor based ternary blend system by Femto-second transient spectroscopy and found that Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) is the key mechanism for enhancement in the PCE of the ternary blend system which has great potential for future efficiency improvements.
My PhD work has resulted in publications in reputed Journals (Advanced Materials, and Applied Physics Letters) & International patent entitle “Improved bulk heterojunction solar cells based on modified PTB7-PC60BM”.
