You need to have a little rhythm and you need to be able to laugh and have fun ☺
There are sheets with the beats that we learn so you can practice at home.
Sample: I like peanut butter I like jam
B B T T T T B B T
B = Bass tone (hit center of drum with palm)
T = Open tone (hands form a triangle near edge)
S = snap (slap edge of drum)
For some rhythms we will even have this symbol X which represents hitting the bottom of your drum with a stick (piece of dowel) – what fun!!!
The titles of some of the rhythms are: Potato chips, Trolls, Bacon and Eggs, Sausage and Mashed Potato, Drums from Africa, etc. (If you can say it, you can play it)
There are also rhythm instruments that you are welcome to use whenever you get tired of drumming or you just want to try something.
I am facilitating this group only – I am not the queen of the djembe – if you have a beat you want to try or would like to lead us in a beat please speak up. However, I will not center you out and make you perform on your own.
