My research relates to self-regulation. I examine dynamic self-regulatory processes related to motivation, emotion and cognition in relation to learning, performance and well-being. The extent to which and manner in which individuals regulate these processes is increasingly viewed as essential for understanding valued outcomes in a range of  work-relevant settings.

My research informs theory and practice in training and development, work design, performance management, and employee health and wellbeing, in a variety of work settings that aim to accelerate learning and optimise performance and wellbeing. Indicating the impact of this work, I was invited to give a talk on self-regulation at the American Psychological Society conference in 2017, as well as the keynote address at the 2022 Australian Industrial and Organisational Psychology conference.

Due to the dynamic, multi-level nature of self-regulatory processes, I believe it is essential to examine their complexities in tightly controlled settings, but am equally committed to generalising these theories and their results to field settings. A key innovation in my work lies in applying theories and methods developed in the laboratory to field contexts. My Strategic Basic Research program is primarily conducted in the laboratory but also tests key principles in the field; and I have a complementary Applied Research program conducted solely in the field.

I am an Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Psychology and previously served on the editorial board of Personnel Psychology. I publish in a wide range of top-tier journal outlets including Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management and Journal of Organizational BehaviorI am the recipient of multiple awards including the Early Career Research Award from the Australian Psychological Society and the Mid-Career Researcher Award from the University of Western Australia. I am also the recipient of six Australian Research Council (ARC) grants.

I have consistently performed service roles in UWA's Management and Organisations department, including Graduate Research Coordinator (2013-2015), Honours Coordinator (2016 ongoing), Deputy Head of Department (2017), Head of Department (2020), and the service related to my present role as Woodside Chair in Leadership and Management (2021).
