In this rousing annual fundraising event members of the band break up in to small ensembles and play in front of local area businesses hoping patrons will spare some change and make a donation to the band. If you are out and about in Shelby Township/Utica on the evening of Friday, September 17 or throughout the day on Saturday, September 18 keep an eye out and ear open to spot and find members of your very own Utica Marching Band.
What is Tag Day?
Good question! Basically it’s a fundraiser, in perhaps the most literal sense.
TAG DAY is done by many high school bands in different formats. Small groups of band students set up in front of local businesses playing music and collecting donations for the band program. Our community is very supportive of this event, especially when our musicians play them a tune or two
This happens on a Friday and Saturday in the early fall. Students sign up for a time slot that they can work the fundraiser.
What we need from students is their enthusiasm. They will spend their assigned time slot with several of their bandmates.
What we need from our parents is drivers/chaperones for the various locations.
Who Should Participate?
All Marching Band members.
What to expect:
Students:
Do not skimp on breakfast or lunch.
Wear your summer band uniform plus comfortable shoes.
Bring water - leave it in the car if you need to. HYDRATE.
Figure out who is a good “spokesperson”.
Have fun!!!
Smile!
Parents:
We need at least 1 parent chaperone for each group at each location.
Younger students will need transportation.
You will keep a tally of money collected as well as hold on to it for safe keeping.
Please give any time you can. This is a great opportunity to volunteer and also get to know the amazing kids in your child's band program.
