Reading room is on 2nd floor Horizon tower, right next to patient check-in area. Secretaries there can show you to the reading room if you get lost.
First day will include computer training. Our coordinator will contact you with those details before you start.
Workday starts at 7:30AM. We read studies until last modified timestamp of 4:30PM. Depending on team efficiency, people usually leave for home anywhere between 5:00PM - 6:00PM.
The service includes CT and US imaging. Generally, one resident covers ultrasound, two residents cover CT, and one resident assists with both CT and US lists. These roles switch every week. As the military rotator, you are one of the two upper levels (other two residents are usually first years), and the service depends on your hard work and efficiency to function well.
Goals for efficiency should be around 80-100 US studies per day and 20-30 CTs per day when primarily covering those lists.
Please don’t hesitate to read complex CT studies such as three-phase liver, urograms, kidney protocols, etc. The staff and other upper level residents are more than happy to assist with any questions.
Please assist in answering the phones, which generally are clinician requests or protocoling questions.
Prioritize ER and stat inpatient studies. Your co-residents can help with identifying those studies on the list.
Dress Code: Scrubs are approved for every day attire. Otherwise, standard business attire.
Noon conference is every day at the 6th floor lecture hall in the Medical School building. Your co-residents can assist in showing you the way there.
There are weekly dedicated Body conferences at 8:00AM on Thursdays in the resident room. Please ask your co-residents to give you directions there.
There will be an interesting case conference during the last week of the rotation, so please try to collect 2 cases to present. Very low pressure 5 minute powerpoint.
Do not hesitate to contact the Chief Residents with any questions or concerns. Chiefs change from year to year, so just ask the coordinator for their emails/phone numbers.
