Civics

Civics education in Virginia emphasizes the importance of citizen involvement in all levels of government and promotes the study of state and local government among the Commonwealth's citizens.   Civics and civic education are at the core of Virginia’s public school mission. In the classroom, civics is more than just an SOL and more relevant to your life (and your students' lives) than you might think. Concepts of "respect", "sharing", "responsibility", and "honesty" are all civics concepts you may be familiar with and use as a part of classroom and behavior management.
