When considering to take a course in the beginning of the semester, keep these in mind:
- If you want a course to be in English, you should be there at the first lecture, or delegate other BMS students! Otherwise, if there are no international students there, and everybody who appears at the first lecture agrees to take the course in German, it will probably be in German.
- You can always write an email to the professor and ask questions about e.g. the material, the preliminaries or the requirements of the course.
- You can also ask your Phase I supervisor/mentor if (s)he thinks that this course would fit into your studies, and what kind of mathematics will be done in the course. In the first year of your Phase I, the main task of your supervisor is to discuss which courses to take, and evaluate your progress after your exams.
- You can also ask other BMS students if they want to attend the course as well. It is always nice if you can study together with your fellow students, and many times the homeworks are to be submitted in groups of 2-3 people.
- You should keep the BMS study regulations and the universities' Master's regulations in mind about how many and what kind of courses to take!
- If you want to take courses that are not contained in the BMS list, ask the BMS Liaison Officer if the BMS will acknowledge these as BMS courses or not!
Remark: BMS basic and advanced courses are in principle in English. Basic courses that are offered only at one university in a semester are always held in English. However, it may happen that two universities offer the same BMS basic course, and one of them turns out to be in German.
