2024 VOIG Board

President: Irene ("Eye-rene") Pak

Undergraduate Institution: Yale University

With VOIG, I'm really excited to create a close-knit community among medical students interested in ophthalmology and to raise awareness around the beauty of medical eye care and eye surgery, even among those who may not initially be interested!

Mentorship and Events Chair: Alythia Vo

Undergraduate Institution: University of Maryland, College Park

I was motivated to join VOIG board in order to contribute to fostering a community of people who share a passion for eye health and to play a role in organizing educational events that promote an awareness and appreciation for ophthalmology. I have also seen the meaningful impact of vision care on peoples' lives and I hope to create events that will help address the vision needs of the greater SF Bay Area community.

Research and Communications Chair: Maria Lee

Undergraduate Institution: Yale University

Given the diversity of innovative ophthalmology research projects currently underway at UCSF, I hope to help facilitate meaningful connections between students and researchers in order to produce a robust research community that works together to improve eye care for patients.

Education Co-Chair: Nick Correia

Undergraduate Institution: Brown University

As the education co-chair, I hope to foster a welcoming environment where exploration and curiosity are encouraged in the educational lectures and workshops, and questions are a means for everyone involved to learn and grow.

Education Co-Chair: Gabriel Salazar

Undergraduate Institution: University of California, Los Angeles

Education has been one of the main drivers in my decision to pursue medicine and ophthalmology. As such, I'm excited to leverage my past experiences in education to help foster a supportive community for UCSF medical students interested in the field of ophthalmology.
