I’m passionate about supporting students pursuing a career in ophthalmology by fostering mentorship, guidance, and opportunities to help them succeed. Restoring a patient’s vision is a deeply fulfilling and rewarding experience. I’m eager to create opportunities for early exposure to this unique and incredible specialty!
Research and Communications Chair: Flo Ebem
Undergraduate Institution: New York University
I am excited to help foster a more accessible and connected ophthalmology community. I am particularly motivated to create clear, streamlined ways to share news, opportunities, and accomplishments across the department so that students can engage early and meaningfully. My ultimate goal is to help students interested in ophthalmology to find research connections and mentorship, while also building critical research skills early in their medical training.
Mentorship and Events Chair: Hiab Ghebregherghis
Undergraduate Institution: Portland State University
I am excited to help streamline mentorship and make the path to ophthalmology more accessible and welcoming for students. I also look forward to organizing events such as faculty meet-and-greets and the ophthalmology museum tour, giving students meaningful opportunities to explore this incredible specialty.
Education Co-Chair: Andrea Huang

Education Co-Chair: Andy Nguyen
Undergraduate Institution: University of California, Santa Barbara
I’m Andy, an MS1 at UCSF who jumped down the ophthalmology rabbit hole and never climbed out. I worked as an ophthalmic tech out of high school and have been in love with eyeballs since! I’m interested in vision science, health equity, and LGBTQ+ health. As Education Co-Chair, I’m excited to develop accessible, high-yield ophthalmology learning opportunities for students and also contribute to the unique vision needs of the greater SF Bay Area community.
