Apply for our Emergency Medical Responder Class!
UCEMS EMR class participants earn their CPR certifications in Winter 2016!
UCEMS offers an Illinois Emergency Medical Responder course in Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters, which confers Red Cross certification (and state licensure, if one chooses) upon successful completion.
The course will have two sections each quarter, both running from 2nd week to 10th week:
Mondays and Wednesdays 6:00-8:00 PM
Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00-10:00 PM
A Red Cross certification fee is required at the start of the course and pays for the license as well as the equipment we use. Please check the application for details about the cost. We are proud to offer the course at a significantly lower price than the Red Cross, due to the willingness of our volunteer instructors!
If the cost is a barrier to you, please reach out to us and we will work with you to make sure you can engage fully with the program!
Successful graduates of the course will receive American Red Cross certification in Emergency Medical Response. This will give them the knowledge and skills necessary to join the UCEMS Unit if they are interested.
An Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is an individual who has the basic knowledge and skills needed to provide emergency care; they are (at minimum) certified to provide care until a more highly trained professional arrives on a patient scene. The EMR was formerly called the "first responder."
EMRs are the first persons on the scene and begin the course of action, interacting with and treating patients as well as collecting information that will need to be passed on to the next level of personnel when they arrive on scene. As the first trained professionals on the scene, the actions of an EMR are critical and may determine whether a seriously injured or ill person survives.
The application is currently open. Applications close Saturday, October 2nd. Apply here: https://forms.gle/wovRzU8SfYmmsGoG8
