U3A GEORGE/WILDERNESS
The George and Wilderness branch was launched in March 2003. It now has over 200 members who have a variety of talks and activities to choose from including:
- Two talks each month on the widest range of topics imaginable. Speakers come from across South Africa and from our own membership
- An armchair travel presentation from a speaker sharing their experience of an interesting destination
- International affairs discussion covering much of what is happening in the world today
- A digital photography group
- Creative writing group
- Scrabble
- Music
- A weekly walk
- Occasional social activities and outings to local places of interest
HOW U3A GEORGE/WILDERNESS FUNCTIONS
TALKS AND MEETINGS
Our Friday Talks and Monthly Meetings start at 10:30. Tea and coffee is available from 10:00.
Armchair Travel starts at 10:30.
International Affairs is usually on the last Monday of the month at 14:00.
The digital photography club (DigiClub) normally meet on the third Monday of the month at 14:00.
All the above are held at the Emmaus Protective Work Centre at 6 Memorium Street, Eastern Extension, George. Other activities are held at convenient locations in George.
Members can choose whichever activities interest them and can become involved in giving talks, running courses or being part of the committee.
COMMUNICATION
U3A George/Wilderness communicates with its members by e-mail. A monthly Newsletter keeps our members informed of meetings and activities.
FEES
The individual annual membership fee is R80 or R120 per couple. There is a charge of R10 for members for each meeting. Visitors are welcome to attend the talks for a fee of R20.
RECIPROCAL MEMBERSHIP
U3A George/Wilderness enjoys reciprocal membership with other U3A groups within South Africa. If you wish to attend a meeting at any other U3A group, simply show your current membership card and you will be allowed to join in their activities.
