Cake Cutters

Upon request of a hobbyist baker, I designed and 3D printed a set of cake cutters. The purpose of the cutters were to cut pieces of cake such that when cut, the cake would fit into rubber molds.

They are not cookie cutters, they are cake cutters!

Cake cutter

The cutters(right) have both straight and corrugated edges like standard cookie/cake cutters (left).

Square cutter with mold

The cutting edge of the cutter had to be thin, like standard cookie cutters. The printers nozzle diameter is .35mm and the actual extrusion width for a single layer (pictured above) is .37mm.

Oval cutter with mold

The single layer thick cutting edge was to thin, it warped and broke easily. Therefore, the thickness was increased to three layers, approximately 1.11mm thick.

Circle cutter with mold

The cutters were also made taller than standard cookie cutters to that they would go through cake easier.

Delicious results!

Once the cake was cut in the proper shape, it was pressed into the mold and covered in chocolate and fillings.
