TOYOTA OF CEDAR PARK
GENSLER
CEDAR PARK, TEXAS
ARCHITECT, BIM MANAGER : SPRING 2015 - SUMMER 2017
Faced with a zoning prohibition of the prototypical Toyota metal facade panels in a historic Texas town, Gensler developed a regional adaptation of the Toyota Image USA II dealership. The exterior of the building utilizes native stone veneer, cast stone accents and simulated wood beam lintels to create a unique Hill Country aesthetic.
The native stone veneer was locally sourced and was less expensive than using simulated stone. The interior design combines Hill Country aesthetic with a mix of Austin eclectic design using warm wood veneer millwork, granite countertops and images sourced from the local historical society for accent wall graphics. Site improvements include water efficient native landscaping to reduce maintenance and water demands. Concrete surface areas for parking and display have been designed with a higher solar reflectivity Index Portland Cement as well as a reflective roof surface to minimize microclimate heat island effects. Landscaping was carefully selected to blend with the natural setting and conceal items such as the on-site storm water detention area. Low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles have been given preferred dedicated parking areas within the parking areas. As the client asked for an environmentally responsible building, the project was designed and constructed under the US Green Building Council and achieved LEED Certification.
