We're always looking for new merit badge counselors! You don't need an advanced degree to instruct a merit badge, just some experience and interest in the topic and a willingness to instruct the Scouts. Mr. Szymendera is the Troop Merit Badge Counselor Coordinator, so feel free to ask him any questions about becoming a counselor. You can see the current list of counselors in our Troop sorted by badge or name.
How to register as a merit badge counselor:
Complete your Youth Protection Training if it's not current or if you've never done it before. YPT is available on https://my.scouting.org
Complete Scouts BSA – Merit Badge Counselor Position Specific Training online or in person. You can access it online at https://my.scouting.org
Complete the online application here. It's quick and free! If you're already registered as an adult volunteer, you still need to re-register specifically as a merit badge counselor. It's better to complete steps 1 and 2 before registering because your application won't be accepted until those are complete.
Complete the Merit Badge Counselor Information Form and send it to Mr. Szymendera. This form allows you to indicate the merit badges that you would like to instruct. He will forward it to the District. Remember to list your qualifications for each badge and sign the form. Current counselors can use the same form to add or drop merit badges.
