Whether or not you have experience with Scouting and Scouts BSA, Troop 561 welcomes you! We focus on developing character, leadership, citizenship, and personal fitness in boys aged 10-17. Our troop plans a year-round calendar of Scout-led activities that emphasize the patrol method, including outdoor adventure, life skills, and community service to provide a high quality, fun program for the Scouts.
Troop 561 is chartered by the Rotary Club of Lexington Park. We meet on Thursday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the St. Mary's Elks Lodge in California. The Rotary Club of Lexington Park also charters Scouts BSA Troop 560 for girls.
Scout-led: Scouts lead the troop with adult supervision and mentoring. The senior patrol leader runs weekly meetings and the youth leaders develop the monthly program and activities. New Scouts form their own patrol to get started on the Trail to First Class with guidance from more experienced Scouts.
Outings: Our robust calendar includes campouts, hiking, water sports, orienteering, skiing, summer camp, high adventure, and more. We provide cooking equipment and other gear.
Community Service: Opportunities are also available for Scouts and adults to participate in community service. Our Scouts have cleaned area trails, planted trees, and collected food for the food bank.
