First order of business. If you are part of PA-CS-Electrical Team please confirm you got this e-mail so that I can verify all of our e-mail addresses are working. Moving forward all communication will be via e-mail. I will mail via U S Mail to anyone on Electrical Team who does not respond so we pickup any of you who did not get this.
As per the request of PA-CS-Admin herewith attached is the job description for PA-CS-Crew. This job description describes what is expected of us.
Construction Services is made up of four teams each with a Team Leader:
Electrical: John Current from Fort Wayne, Indiana
Mechanical: Larry Hazard from Columbus, Montana
Special Projects: Kevin Belknap from Arlington, Texas
Structural: David Dowell from Duncan, Oklahoma
David Dowell and Larry hazard have already or will be soon sending this same job description out to their teams. Jay Eman mentioned that we all are part of Special Projects and that is a fact. I didn’t mention that Kevin Belknap will be sending this job description out because to date his team is himself and Cody Stevenson. Kevin will draw manpower from all the rest of Construction Services. The list of special projects is being developed. David, Larry and I are committed to full support of the mission of the Special Projects Team.
Some housekeeping issues:
Jay has been pushing hard for everyone to complete YPT and get the Medical Forms resolved. He was asked to do this and it is part of his job description. Jamboree Medical is saying they have so many medical forms they can’t tell us what’s up and not to worry until July 1st. That is probably not going to sit well with us “Be Prepared” kind of people so if your Medical Forms are not yet showing up as APPROVED then please do have a sense of urgency and keep asking the appropriate people. As long as you are courteous, there is no harm in being proactive now.
A change in plans, please do not send me or anyone else except Jamboree Medical or Jamboree Registration anything related to your medical forms. The request was made to send us the FAX receipt and most of you were so eager to get this resolved that you also sent via FAX or E-mail your medical forms. Your medical records are confidential and private. If you sent them to me they have been destroyed by a certified document destruction company as of Friday. No one sent originals or I would have returned them to you via certified mail.
As to YPT, if this isn’t showing up as complete save yourself time and go online and take it over. It will take you 45 minutes at most. If it takes you 45 minutes then you found it informative and helpful and decided to dwell on it longer. Bring the certificate that you print out to the Jamboree.
Electrical Team is 100% complete on the biographies that Coy Veatch (former chairman of PA-CS since resigned) requested. Thank you and we are using them to help build our Electrical Team. I believe the plan is to share them amongst the whole of PA-CS. Cody will make them available when they are substantially complete.
Driver Training – Please take it online before the Jamboree and preferably yet in June to assure the records reflect you took the training. Bring your card that you print off after completion of training. This is a prerequisite to obtaining a Jamboree Driver’s License which you will apply for and pick up at Jamboree Transportation when onsite. Also a change of plans, please don’t copy me your certificate as the chances of me being able to connect with the right people to produce it on your behalf are zero. You will process through must faster if you bring all required training certificates with you.
Anyone who ordered PA-CS custom t-shirts, caps, CSP or troop numerals needs to settle up with Tom Lucas. Follow the instructions that come with your invoice that Cody Stevenson sent. I have requested a list of who from Electrical team that needs to settle up . Please save me the trouble of needing to follow up.
There have been questions on the procedures for after hours emergencies and whether or not we will work shifts. Although I gave some input to the afterhours emergency procedure it is a team effort and Tom Lucas or Jay Eman will release the final version as soon as appropriate. Please prepare for some sort of on call duty that will fairly and equally distribute the duty throughout the entire team. Electrical Team does not anticipate working shifts although there is an offer to host one on call person per team at MCS. At this time it is more an offer of hospitality and welcoming from MCS, if we need it, than anything else.
A month ago we had more members on our Electrical Team. We lost one because he belonged on David’s team, another that belonged on Larry’s team. We didn’t lose Jay, we just have to share him with all of PA-CS. Because of that we shall remove him from our roster. We lost another this week who ran into a vacation schedule conflict. The staff isn’t firm until we all show up and report to our work site. Circumstances change, conditions change, and because of this inability to attain 100% certainty we plan for changes.
Electrical Team News Release -
Electrical Team will have a Team Leader (John Current) from Indiana, a Deputy Team Leader (Charles “Mac” Randolph) from Utah; and three Crew Chiefs. Mac Randolph is stepping in to do what Jay Eman has been doing for the Electrical Team for many months. Mac will continue to serve in that capacity throughout the Jamboree. Please support him as you have been supporting Jay and I those many months. I sincerely appreciate the support you passed along to Jay in his new position of Vice Chairman of PA-CS-Admin.
About the process of choosing the crew chiefs – Everyone of the staff assembled so far is qualified, including our two youngest members because I keep hearing from my own family in regards to the fruit doesn’t fall to far from the vine. One of our staff is serving now for his sixth Jamboree. We have a roster of higher degrees that would pale the credentials of the faculty at a typical community college. We have an abundance of Eagle Scouts, holders of the Silver Beaver, Arrowmen, Vigil Honor, a majority of us are Wood Badge trained, many have gone on to serve on WB staff, and I believe we have one with 4-beads or about to become a course director, National Camp School trained, NCS Staff, Camp Visitation Specialists, Philmont Training Center alumni, University of Scouting, the list goes on. Our combined credentials for what we all do for a living are nothing but impressive. We have the very best.
It will come of no surprise that the three individuals invited to serve as the crew chiefs served on the staff of PAG-Electrical at the 2005 Jamboree and each played a leadership role on that staff. Each of these individuals performed a critical role during and in the aftermath of the tragic event that marked that Jamboree. I don’t want to revisit the event except to say each of these individuals displayed leadership considerably above that expected of the volunteer staff. So with a large field of qualified team members to select as crew chiefs the ones I took the personal privilege to ask are David Beighley (Harborcreek, PA), Andrew Martella, Sr. (Aston, PA), and Mike Will (Marriottsville, MD). I have ask Mac Randolph to reaffirm my distinct honor and personal privilege to invite them to serve as our crew chiefs. Last week they were sent an e-mail requesting they consider a leadership role and let this message today be clear that the offer is official.
