Central Park is located at the heart of the township of Kalyani. It is the nucleus of the town. All the important buildings of the town such as banks, Kalyani Town Club, post office and administrative units are located within a small radius of this area which is the Central Park. The Central Park is also very important as far as the transport of the town is concerned. All the diagonal roads of the town meet in this particular place successfully highlighting the planned nature of the township. The places which are connected directly to the Central Park are the Picnic Garden, A-Block connector, 3 no. market, Buddha Park, I.T.I. crossing, 2 no, market. The interlinking of the roads is a special feature of the township.
The Central Park is also the cultural centre of the town as it hosts a whole lot of cultural events all over the year. The place consists of a round park decorated with musical fountains. Along with it we find a cricket ground maintained by the Kalyani Town Club. The Central Park hosts cultural events such as the book fairs, flower shows, art exhibitions and so on. The ‘Banga Sanskriti Mela’ also takes place in the Central Park and over the last decade and more a cluster of celebrities had performed in it such as famous singers, dramatists, dancers and so on.
The Central Park also houses a good amount of restaurants, fast food centres and cafes attracting the residents from all the ages to flock to them. Apart from the residents, people also come to this place from outside Kalyani to enjoy the sensuous evenings with their friends and closed ones. As time progressed, this place gained more popularity especially among the younger generation as this place acts to be a perfect one for their evening chit-chats and ‘addas’. The Durga Puja which is held in the Central Park is the major attraction of the year as it is the grandest and most popular of the township. People from all age groups visit this place and spends a whole lot of time here. The full place stays crowded and an ambience of festivity and pomp is created.
