Undergraduate, Master, and PhD students
Our group is looking for students interested in Space Physics. Successful candidates will focus on the data analysis of Earth's aurora and the dynamics of the magnetosphere-ionosphere system. Topics include Space Weather, aurora, STEVE, GPS, radar remote sensing, solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, and plasma-neutral coupling. The Research page shows some of such topics, and the People page shows the research topics for the current and past students.
Prior experience in Space Physics is not required, but a strong interest in the field and a solid background in physics and mathematics are essential. Proficiency in a programming language is desired.
We welcome students from a broad range of majors, including Physics, Math, and Engineering; you do not need to be an Astronomy or ECE major. BU undergraduate and Master's students receive an hourly wage. BU PhD students receive a monthly stipend. Students in other universities can also work with us, although whether they can get paid depends on administrative regulations and funding availability. We also accept applications from potential visiting scholars.
To apply, please email your CV, transcript(s), and a brief statement summarizing your background and research interests to Toshi Nishimura (toshi16@bu.edu).
