Jerome Kern

Jerome Kern composed musical theatre and popular music. He was born in 1885 and died in 1945. He is best known for writing the music for the musical "Show Boat".

Jerome Kern was a quite successful incremental musical innovator, integrating syncopation and jazz chord progressions into the existing musical theater tradition.

While only the musical "Show Boat" still enjoys widespread popularity in musical theater revivals, many of Kern's songs have become jazz standards, including "The Way You Look Tonight", "All the Things You Are", and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes".
