Troubleshooting

Some possible problems and solutions are:

"Completed OK, but found no image files in the specified locations." Error message

This message occurs if you requested a batch operation by dropping a directory onto tpDNG, but toDNG couldn't find any image files to convert.

Not all my image metadata is being copied to the DNG file

toDNG will transfer most common EXIF data to the new DNG image. However, there is wide variety of possible metadata, some of which is image format specific. The image format specific data can't be copied.

Program XXX won't read the DNG files that toDNG produces

In order to convert bitmap files in RGB format to DNG (rather than camera files in Bayer matrix format), toDNG has to produce so-called "linear raw" DNG files. Some image processing software won't correctly read these files, unfortunately including Apple's Preview and Aperture products. Adobe products, e.g., Lightroom, Photoshop and Camera Raw, will read them correctly.

"Image not created from image source." Error message

This is typically as a result to too little memory; DNG conversion is a very memory intensive operation.

"File is already in DNG format." Error message

toDNG skips over files that are already in DNG format.

"Could not create a linear buffer - probably ran out of memory." Error message

This is typically as a result to too little memory; DNG conversion is a very memory intensive operation..

"Error writing file." Error message

There was a problem when WinDat Opener tried to save the file. Most probably, you don't have permission to write to that location. Check the file or directory permissions, and try again.

"Could not create a Core Graphics image - probably a corrupted image file." Error message

toDNG opened a file that looked like a valid image file, but decoding errors occurred.

When all else fails.....

If toDNG gets completely confused, it will output diagnostic/error messages to the Console. These messages may help you to find the root cause of the problem. Start the Console application, and repeat whatever steps led to the problem
