In my work I often create large datasets, often from scratch. This page is intended to share these data with other researchers. You will also see that many of my datasets contain extensive documentations and visualisations, which I use to keep track of data quality.
Contains monthly economic activity indicators (scaled on GDP p.c.), price data, exports, any many more series for 28 countries, 1925-1936.
If you only want to use the core Interwar Macro Panel Dataset containing the main indicators (monthly GDPs, imports, exports, and prices) in stata, you can simply download it here.
The full dataset, including all codes etc. can be dowloaded from this repository: Full Data and Replication files.
A massive appendix with visualisations can be found in my thesis (click here to download)
Please cite my paper if you use any of the data: "The Prelude and Global Impact of the Great Depression" , Explorations in Economic History (2018 (70), pp 150-163)
In this project, my co-authors and I document the top wealth shares in Germany for the period 1895-2018.
We also provide a new wealth-income series, updating Piketty's and Zucman's work as well as the wealth accounts by the Bundesbank. The series are available here
We have contributed our series to the WID.world project. You can also download the series there, together with series for many other countries.
You can find our detailed documentation with tons of robustness checks and additional material here.
Please cite our working paper when using the data: Albers, Thilo N. H., Bartels, Charlotte, and Moritz Schularick (2022): "Wealth and its Distribution in Germany, 1895-2018", CEPR DP No. 17269
For this project, my co-authors and I build up a global city dataset covering 125 metropoles world wide and geocode their history.
You will find information such as the foundation place of cities, their first city hall, as well as all types of disasters that occurred since 1800. We also add data on public transport and population.
The data are not yet published as the paper is still under review. However, as soon as our paper is accepted, we will release the data here.
You can find detailed visualisations for each city as well as source sheets here.
Please cite our working paper if you use any visualisations: Ahlfeldt, Gabriel M., Albers, Thilo N. H., and Kris Behrens (2022): "Prime Locations", CEPR DP 15470
