The program at TLC focuses on physical, cognitive, creative, and social-emotional development. Using weekly unit topics, each classroom provides a developmentally appropriate program that enhances growth, learning, and creativity. Classroom activities may include music, stories, finger plays, language, math, science, manipulatives, dramatic center, art, food experiences, field trips and visitors, practical life center and individual or small group time with the teachers. TLC embraces the belief that PLAY is essential for children to learn and that many important concepts are introduced through play. The Center environment is safe, the staff is caring and the atmosphere is alive with the excitement of discovery. The Center staff strive to help your child gain self-esteem and confidence by accepting and respecting each child as an important group member and a special and unique individual.
The children at TLC are divided into classes according to age, classroom openings, and readiness. There is approximately one staff person to every ten preschool/school age children; one staff person to every seven toddlers (2 years to 3 years); and one staff person to every 5 infants (12 months to 24 months).
OUR CLASSROOMS:
Muppets: 1 year old
Our one year olds are discovering their world in many ways. Each day we provide activities that help them learn and grow.
To encourage exploration, we listen to music, look at books, spend time outdoors, create, and play with balls, blocks, baby dolls and dishes.
To encourage language development, we talk, sign, read stories and sing songs. Teachers spend one-one-one time with children to provide comfort and positive attention.
Each day is a new adventure! The Muppets are moving, climbing, crawling and walking. We support each child’s level of development and individual progress.
We partner with parents to ensure a positive experience for their child.
Little Rascals: 2 years old
Twos are terrific!
Our Little Rascals are very busy: they run, climb, build, knock down, dance and sing!
Independence is fostered by allowing for free choice of activities indoors and outdoors. We use large indoor spaces and outdoor areas that provide room to run and play.
Language development is enriched by teacher-child interactions, reading stories, doing finger plays and singing. Two year olds are learning quickly. Teachers provide stimulating environments and activities to help them learn about the world around them.
We value parents’ input and want to work with parents to give their child a positive experience each day.
Smurfs: 3 years old
The Smurfs are a busy class of three year olds. We work on these skills: sharing, taking turns, being kind and helping solve problems. Our classroom has fun centers to give children choices for the day. We do child-directed art projects to stimulate creativity.
Our story times take us on adventures and our learning times teach us our colors, shapes, ABCs and numbers.
The Smurfs are on the go learning, growing and moving!
Snoopys: 4 years old
The Snoopys are four years old. Fours are ready to learn! This classroom has monthly themes that are fun to learn about and that incorporate the four domains of learning: physical, cognitive, socio-emotional and language. A variety of activities every day stimulate curiosity and independence so that four year olds can feel successful.
During Circle Time, they learn about letters and their sounds, colors, numbers and shapes. They learn in English and in Spanish. The Snoopys have a monthly theme that is broken down into weekly sub-themes. A weekly Food Experience helps them learn about science, math, cooperation and making something from start to finish.
Activities during the week accentuate the theme to allow for a wide range of ways to learn.
Care Bears: pre-K (5 years old)
The Care Bears is our pre-Kindergarten class designed to help children prepare for a successful start in school. We help the children:
• Learn to be independent and in control of oneself
• Develop problem solving skills
• Learn to work and play cooperatively
• Learn to take initiative and assert oneself in socially acceptable ways
• Have academic preparedness
We work on upper and lower case letter recognition and letter sound. When children are ready they move into emergent level readers. We practice writing upper and lower case letters and some words. We learn many songs, finger plays and sign language words. We do many different activities to increase our small and large motor coordination. The projects we do each day are related to the weekly theme and help to reinforce concepts, practice skills and allow children to use their imagination and be creative. Each week we have a food experience as well as activities for science, social studies, and math.
Kids in Discovery: 6-12 years old
The K.I.D.S. program offers a fun and safe after-school environment where children are given the opportunity for independent play and learning, as well as teacher-led activities. We focus on letting each child be creative in their own way while guiding them to become friendly and helpful members of the community.
K.I.D.S. operates during the school year and also has a summer program.
CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Developmentally or physically challenged children are welcome to participate in our program if the child can be reasonably integrated in the classroom routine. Eligibility to participate will be determined by the parents of the child, the classroom staff, and the Director.
