The program at TLC focuses on physical, cognitive, creative, and social-emotional development. Using weekly unit topics, each classroom provides a developmentally appropriate program that enhances growth, learning, and creativity. Classroom activities may include music, stories, finger plays, language, math, science, manipulatives, dramatic center, art, food experiences, field trips and visitors, practical life center and individual or small group time with the teachers.
TLC embraces the belief that PLAY is essential for children to learn and that many important concepts are introduced through play. The Center environment is safe, the staff is caring and the atmosphere is alive with the excitement of discovery. The Center staff strive to help your child gain self-esteem and confidence by accepting and respecting each child as an important group member and a special and unique individual.
The children at TLC are divided into classes according to age, classroom openings, and readiness.
We value parents' input. We partner with parents to ensure a positive and productive experience for each child.
The Muppets are our one year olds, who are discovering their world in many ways. Each day we provide activities that help them learn and grow.
To encourage exploration, we listen to music, look at books, spend time outdoors, create, and play with balls, blocks, baby dolls and dishes.
To encourage language development, we talk, sign, read stories and sing songs. Teachers spend one-one-one time with children to provide comfort and positive attention.
Each day is a new adventure! The Muppets are moving, climbing, crawling and walking. We support each child’s level of development and individual progress.
The Little Rascals are our terrific two year olds. They are very busy running, climbing, building, dancing and singing!
Two is a great age to start fostering independence and building self-esteem. We use a combination of free play and guided activities to help our Little Rascals begin learning these important life skills.
Language development is enriched by teacher-child interactions, reading stories, doing finger plays and singing. Two year olds are learning quickly. Teachers provide stimulating indoor and outdoor environments and activities to help them learn about the world around them.
The Smurfs are a busy class of three year olds.
In our Smurf classroom, learning time is all the time. Three year olds learn best through play and repetition. At Circle Time, they learn colors, shapes, ABCs, and numbers. During free play, they learn skills such as sharing, taking turns, being kind and problem-solving.
We offer the Smurfs project-based learning opportunities by offering child-directed art projects, sensory play, and guided games based on Circle Time topics.
The Smurfs are on the go; learning, growing and moving!
The Snoopys are our four years old and they are ready to learn!
In our Snoopy classroom, we have monthly themes, broken down into weekly sub-themes, that incorporate fun with the four domains of learning: physical, cognitive, socio-emotional and language.
A variety of activities every day stimulate curiosity and independence so that four year olds can feel successful.
During Circle Time, Snoopys explore letters and their sounds, colors, numbers, and shapes in both English and Spanish.
Activities during the week accentuate the theme to allow for a wide range of ways to learn.
4-5 year olds
The Carebears are our pre-Kindergarten class, designed to help children prepare for a successful start in school. Our Carebears learn to be independent, to work and play cooperatively, to take initiative, develop problem solving skills, and have academic preparedness.
We work on upper and lower case letter recognition and writing, letter sounds, and development of emergent reading and writing skills.
The activities we do each day are related to a weekly theme and help to reinforce concepts, practice skills and allow children to express their creativity.
We now offer a Pre-K only option, which includes school preparation for families who do not need extended childcare.
5+ year olds
The K.I.D.S program offers a fun and safe after-school environment where children are given the opportunity for independent play and learning, as well as teacher-led activities. We focus on letting each child be creative in their own way while guiding them to become friendly and helpful members of the community.
After-school pick up is available for Green Acres Elementary, Edahow Elementary, Gate City Elementary, and Pocatello Community Charter School.
K.I.D.S. operates during the school year, including during school breaks/closures and also has a summer program.
CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Children with disabilities are welcome to participate in our program when the child can be reasonably integrated in the classroom routine. Appropriateness of our program will be determined by the parents of the child, the classroom staff, and the Director.
