The County Handball Cumann na mBunscoil Finals were hosted by Youghalarra & Nenagh Clubs. There was a great turnout for the games with 14 schools entered resulting in 57 players taking part and 33 games played. The Schools taking part were Carrig, Boher,   Newport,  Ballina, CBS Nenagh, Gaelscoil Nenagh, BNS Cashel, Burgess, Lissenhall,  Ardcroney,  Kilruane, Silvermines, St Marys Carrick on Suir &  Gaelscoil Carrick on Suir.  After some exciting games of handball in both venues with some games going to tie breaks we finally got down to finals which were held in Nenagh. The large crowd of Parents, Coaches Teachers and Granny,s & Grandads enjoyed some great games in the finals with a great spread of winners who go forward to represent Tipperary Schools in the Munster Finals. To our ground crew Eamon Spillane & Karen Monaghan and to Mary Collins for providing refreshments. Big thanks to the Tipperary Cumann na Mbunscoil committee for supporting our event. The Cumann na mBunscoil annual Cornmarket National Awards were hosted by the Tipperary Cumann na mBunscoil committee in the Anner Hotel in Thurles. Chairman Paddy Kelly & his committee put in immense work in organising the event which only comes around every 32 years to each County. Guest speaker Liam Sheedy Tipperary manager got a standing ovation for his passionate & inspiring speech. County GAA Secretary Tim Floyd had the Liam Mc Carthy Cup, the James Nowlan Cup & the Mary Quinn Memorial Cup on display. As well as National awards being presented three Tipperary people received long service awards   - Donal Mc Carthy, Gerry Mc Donnell & Paddy Collins for their huge contribution in promoting Cumann na mBunscoil  games within the County & Province.

GUIDELINES FOR COUNTY AND PROVINCIAL STAGES

1.  Under 13 Competition is open to all school pupils Under 13 years of age on January 1st. in the year of the competition and the Under 11 Competition is open to all school pupils under 11 years of age on January 1st. in the year of the competition.

2. A school may select one singles and one doubles entry for both boys and girls in each age category.

3. A player may take part in either singles or doubles but not both.

4. The usual rules of handball apply with the following exception. Service alternates after each five points. Players may score in or out of service.

Full Rules Includes Backwall in Serve

Doubles pairs alternate service after each point on all occasions. i.e. Player A serves first, Player B serves second, Player A serves third, Player B serves fourth, Player A serves fifth and then the other pair serve as above. After a further five aces Player B serves, then Player A serves and so on giving each player an equal number of serves.

Service alternates after every five points.

5. Games to be played to 11 aces. Aggregate aces of two games decides winner. Tie break to 11, if required. (if level on aces)

6. Participating schools to select their representatives using whatever facilities are available to them.

7. Ideally, alley size of 40 x 20 to be used at county stage

8. County winners to represent Tipperary at Munster Finals on 16th February 2020.

9. Regional winners take part in National handball day in Croke Park New Complex  on 7th March 2020. This is round robin exhibition tournament as there are no official All-Ireland champions.

All competitions use Challenger.2 Ball

10. Players must wear goggles.

HANDBALL Playing rules ( Simplified)

1. (A)  The server stands between the service and short lines and strikes the ball with the hand to the front wall after bouncing it once. If the ball fails to reach the wall the receiver gets an ace.

 (B) For service in Doubles, the server’s partner shall stand in the service box facing the server with both feet on the floor until the served ball passes over the short line.

(C) In service the ball must pass over the short line to be in play. Two shorts” results in a score or a (mark) for the opponent (s)

2. The receiver stands outside the short line. The receiver must return the ball to the front wall after one bounce (or before the ball bounces) If the ball fails to strike the front wall the opponent receives a score (a mark)

3. The order of service is decided by tossing a coin.

Munster convention last night 1st round of championship to place on Sunday 4th February. This will be from under 14 to under 17 .Due to the fact I now have to schedule the Provincial CnaB competition for Sat 3rd February under 12/13 Munster championship is deffered to later date.

Also please note that Munster Juvenile Championship semi finals will take place on Sunday 11 February and finals are on the following Sunday 18 February.

2017 Cumannn Na mBunscoill Munster Handball Finals:

Limerick hosted the first of its two-year cycle of Cumann Na MBunscoil Munster handball finals on Sunday February 12th, as Broadford hosted all the girls  and Cappagh catered for the boys. A full entry list from five Counties took part, resulting in four titles for Cork, Clare on two with one each for Limerick and Tipperary. Two 21-19 games stood out as nail-biters on the day; in the B13S quarter final Rosa Keehan [Scariff-Clare] edged out John Cronin [Mintogues-Kerry], with the G11D decider seeing Adele Linehan/Molly Finn [Broadford NS] claiming the winners podium against Eadaoin Moroney/Lilly Cavanagh [Kilkishen].

Thanks to Broadford and Cappagh handball clubs for hosting the 2017 Munster Cumann Na MBunscoil handball finals; organizer’s/referees-Tony Hayes, Donal Hayes, Paddy Collins, Pat Murphy, Sean Murphy, Mary Shanahan, Andrea Lenihan everyone who organized refreshments on the day and helped in any way in the preparation and running off these games. GUIDELINES FOR COUNTY AND PROVINCIAL STAGES

1.  Under 13 Competition is open to all school pupils Under 13 years of age on January 1st. in the year of the competition and the Under 11 Competition is open to all school pupils under 11 years of age on January 1st. in the year of the competition.

2. A school may select one singles and one doubles entry for both boys and girls in each age category.

3. A player may take part in either singles or doubles but not both.

4. The usual rules of handball apply with the following exception. Service alternates after each five points. Players may score in or out of service.

 (Full Rules includes Backwall in serve for U11 &  U13)

Doubles pairs alternate service after each point on all occasions. i.e. Player A serves first, Player B serves second, Player A serves third, Player B serves fourth, Player A serves fifth and then the other pair serve as above. After a further five aces Player B serves, then Player A serves and so on giving each player an equal number of serves.

Service alternates after every five points.   

No time outs allowed

5. Games to be played to 11 aces. Aggregate aces of two games decides winner.

In the event of a tie on aces, a tie break to 11 will be played; Toss of a coin to decide who serves first in a tie break.

6. Participating schools to select their representatives using whatever facilities are available to them.

7. Ideally, alley size of 40 x 20 to be used at county stage

8. County winners to represent at Regional Festival

9. Regional winners take part in National handball day in Croke Park. This is round robin exhibition tournament as there are no official All-Ireland champions.

All competitions use Challenger.2 Ball

10. Players must wear goggles.

1. (A)  The server stands between the service and short lines and strikes the ball with the hand to the front wall after bouncing it once. If the ball fails to reach the wall the receiver gets an ace.

 (B) For service in Doubles, the server’s partner shall stand in the service box facing the server with both feet on the floor until the served ball passes over the short line.

(C) In service the ball must pass over the short line to be in play. Two shorts” results in a score or a (mark) for the opponent (s)

2. The receiver stands outside the short line. The receiver must return the ball to the front wall after one bounce (or before the ball bounces) If the ball fails to strike the front wall the opponent receives a score (a mark)

3. The order of service is decided by tossing a coin.

2016 Cumann Na mBunscoill Munster Handball Finals:

Ballydesmond Handball Club hosted the final instalment of the two year Cork cycle for Munster Cumann Na MBunscoil Handball finals last Saturday February 6th . The 2016 Cumann Na MBunscoil Munster handball finals saw five Counties taking part, playing a total of twenty nine games starting at 10am and finishing at 2 30pm. Out of the eight titles on offer, Cork and Clare shared took three each, with one apiece going to Tipperary and Limerick.

The standard on view all day was excellent from all the girls and boys; the closest final of all the groups proved to be a real humdinger in the Girls 11 Singles decider ,as Hannah Brennan took the honours against Emer Rodgers [Scariff] by one ace 19-18. One of the games of the day took place in the boys 13 Singles; Adam Hogan had a titanic struggle with Sean Quirke of  Kerry in a preliminary round game which went to a tie break [11-10, 10-11, 11-2], and had another tough encounter against  Gearoid Healy in the semi final. Many thanks to Ballydesmond Handball Club for hosting the Munster Cumann Na MBunscoil handball finals for the second year in a row; the methodology of the teaching profession through Michael O Keefe showed through in the preparation and running off of these games. The referees are a vital part of the day-thanks to Richard Enright, Gerry Mullane and Ger Healy; thanks to Peter Dennehy and Donal Hayes for organising the medals, everyone who organised refreshments on the day and helped out in any way in the preparation and running off of these games. Judging by the standard of handball on view on Saturday, the future of juvenile handball in the Province looks very promising. It shows that there is a lot of work being done at club level to bring these players on, well done to everyone who played on the day and we wish all the winners the best of luck on the National Cumann Na MBunscoil day which will be held on Saturday February 20th in Kingscourt:  Boys-10am; Girls-2pm.

Cumann na mBunscoil County Tipperay Finals 2016

The 2016 Cumann na mBunscoil County Handball Finals were hosted by Youghalara & Ballinahinch. With 10 Schools - Ardcroney, Ballina, Ballinahinch, Burgess, Cashel, Carrig, Lissenhall, Kilruane ,Newport & Youghalarra taking part and a total of 31 Games played the Cumann na Mbunscoil County Finals were a great Success.

Ardcroney Won 3 Finals, Ballina 2, Cashel 1, Newport 1 & Kilruane 1. The Winners now go on to Contest the Munster finals in Ballydesmond in Cork on the weekend of February 6th and 7th with the Munster Winners going forward to the National Cumann na mBunscoil day in Kingscourt on Saturday 20th February.

COMHAIRLE LIATHROID LAIMHE   NA    MUMHAN PRIMARY SCHOOLS HANDBALL TEAM COMPETITION: RULES GOVERNING INTER COUNTY TEAM COMPETITION

COMHAIRLE LIATHROID LAIMHE NA MUMHAN, HAS DECIDED TO RUN CUMANN NA mBUNSCOIL INTER COUNTY TEAM COMPETITIONS AT BOTH A AND B LEVEL.

THE A COMPETITION IS OPEN TO ALL PLAYERS UNDER 11 AND UNDER 13 STILL ATTENDING PRIMARY SCHOOL.  

THE B COMPETITION IS CONFINED TO PLAYERS WHO HAVE NOT REPRESENTED THEIR COUNTY, IN UNDER 12 OR 13 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SINGLES & DOUBLES, AND HAVE NOT PLAYED ON AN UNDER 12/13  TEAM IN EITHER  40/20 OR 60/30.

THE RULES TO APPLY AS FOLLOWS

1. TEAM OF SIX PLAYERS + 2 SUBS, THREE PLAYERS UNDER 11, THREE PLAYERS UNDER 13. SUB IN EACH AGE GROUP.

2. IT CAN BE A MIXED TEAM MADE UP OF BOYS AND GIRLS.

3.  THEY WILL PLAY AS THREE DOUBLES, TWO UNDER 11, TWO UNDER 13, ONE UNDER 11 & ONE UNDER 13.

4. EACH DOUBLES PAIR WILL PLAY TWO GAMES OF FIFTEEN ACES.

5. THE BALL FOR THIS COMPETITION, SHALL BE THE CHALLENGER 2 JUVENILE BALL.

6. EACH COUNTY HANDBALL BOARD SHOULD ENSURE THAT THEIR TEAM ARE PROPERLY ATTIRED IN OFFICIAL COUNTY COLOURS.

7. EACH COUNTY HANDBALL BOARD TO RUN A COMPETITION, WITHIN THEIR COUNTY TO SELECT THE TEAM, WHICH HAS TO BE MADE UP OF PLAYERS CURRENTLY ATTENDING PRIMARY SCHOOL IN THE COUNTY.

PLAYING RULES

1. (a) The server stands between the service and short lines and strike the ball with the hand to the front wall after  bouncing it once.

(b). For  service in doubles, the server’s partner shall stand in the service box facing the server, with his back to wall and both feet on the floor until the served ball passes over the short line.

(c). in service the ball must pass over the short line to be in play. Two “shorts” incur loss of service or a “mark”. for the opposition.

2. (a) The receiver must stand outside the short line. The receiver must return a legal service to the wall after one bounce. If the ball fails to strike the front wall the opponent receives a score (a “mark”).

(b)  Points may be scored while serving or receiving.

3. The order of service is decided by tossing a coin.

4.  Doubles pairs alternate service after each point on all occasions. Service alternates after every five points. In Doubles, every serve alternates between the two players: i.e.-each player in the doubles serves every second serve.

5. Service alternates after each five serves, to simplify this once the pair who are serving have served five legitimate serves, the service alternates to their opponents.

6.  Full rules apply, back wall included. Goggles must be worn by all players.         

In any case where there are only three County teams in any section-i.e.-A or B section; a round robin series of games will be played between those three teams.

In a Round Robin series of games between three teams, the loser of the first round game will play the third team in the next match, with the winner of the first round game playing the third match.

The winner of any section will be the team with the highest aggregate aces over the course of the three matches; in the event of a tie the winner will be decided on the basis of least aces conceded over the round robin series of games.

2014 Allianz Cumann Na MBunscoill Munster Handball Finals

The 2014 Allianz Cumann Na MBunscoill Munster Handball Finals, take place on Saturday January 25th in two Kerry venues-Tralee and Ballymac. Tralee programme kicks off at 10am, with the U11 girls section being played off first, followed by the boy’s groupings at U11 at 11 30am, and the U13 boys at 1 30pm. Proceedings in Ballymac start at 10 30 am with all the girls U13 section singles and doubles being played off: All players are advised to be at their respective venues, 30 minutes before their allocated starting time.

The Cumann ba mBunscoil County Finals were hosted by Ballinahinch & Youghalarra Handball Clubs. 12 schools took part with 69 players competing & resulting in 44 games of Handball. The standard was very high and all winners should do well in Munster Finals. Thanks to all who helped out with the smooth running of the Finals . A special thanks to the Referees & those who provided refreshments.

Cumann na mBunscoil Handball County Finals 2011    

The Cumann na mBunscoil County Handball Finals were hosted by Ballinahinch & Silvermines Handball Clubs. With a total of 14 Schools ,  63 entries & a total of 34 games it proved to be a hectic day of Handball  but  it all ran off without a hitch . Throughout  the day we had some great games of Handball and some of the clear favourites had to be at their very best to come through the various rounds. The Standard is at an all time high in the County and the winners should do well in the Munster finals on Saturday 26th February  In Dolla & Ballinahinch. Thanks to all who helped out in Dolla & Ballinahinch.
