A Cháirde,

At a CCCC meeting last night (22nd December), the CCCC confirmed that we will be giving priority to the 4-Wall Championship after Christmas to get all the Adult and Juvenile 4-Wall 2022 Singles and Doubles grades played in line with current and any future updated Government Guidelines. This may mean that dates as per the current Clár may have to change slightly if the case arises.

This means that the CCCC has postponed the 4-Wall Gael Linn and the 4-Wall 2nd Level Colleges competitions for the moment but the CCCC hopes to play these later in 2022.

Handball Update  22/06/2021

+ Obituary Update 05/06/2021

----------------------------------

Breaking News

Outdoor Courts may be used from Monday 26th April for Handball training.

Monday will see the next step of our exit from lockdown restrictions and return to play. Our members from the twenty-six counties get to follow the return currently being enjoyed by members in the six counties meaning that outdoor Handball training will be permitted across the whole country once again. We hope that this is the beginning of a full return for all club activity both North and South in the near future.

Please note the below:

From Monday 26th April the following applies to clubs in the 26 counties

  *   Outdoor Handball facilities may be used for Handball training.

  *   At Adult Level activities should take place between a maximum of two households.

  *   Training at underage levels in groups of up to 15 people only, including coaches is permitted.

  *   Games are not permitted until further notice.

  *   Use of dressing rooms or other indoor facilities is not permitted for the moment (exception: essential toilet facilities).

  *   Clubs should refer to and abide by the Return to Play Document.

  *   Cover under both the Injury Benefit Fund and Liability insurance policy is conditional on clubs being in compliance with return to play guidelines and requirements.

  *   Particular care is advised in planning for travel to and from training – i.e. only persons from your own bubble should travel in the same vehicle.

  *   Use of other indoor facilities – such as bars, kitchens or meeting rooms – is not permitted under the current regulations.

Clubs in the 6 counties

In relation to restrictions in the 6 counties they will continue as previously advised.

  *   Outdoor Handball facilities may be used for Handball training.

  *   Training at adult and underage levels in groups of up to 15 people only, including coaches is permitted.

  *   Games are not permitted until further notice.

  *   Use of dressing rooms or other indoor facilities is not permitted for the moment (exception: essential toilet facilities).

  *   Clubs should refer to and abide by the Return to Play Document

  *   Cover under both the Injury Benefit Fund and Liability insurance policy is conditional on clubs being in compliance with return to play guidelines and requirements.

  *   Particular care is advised in planning for travel to and from training – i.e. only persons from your own bubble should travel in the same vehicle.

  *   Use of other indoor facilities – such as bars, kitchens or meeting rooms – is not permitted under the current regulations.

Information

Clubs are reminded that return to play protocols must be followed on any return to play or training. Information is available to clubs at the below links:

Click HERE<https://www.gaahandball.ie/news/return-to-play-information-and-resources> for resources and information.

We would strongly encourage our clubs to do all they can to make outdoor Handball as accessible as possible. Whether it’s an outdoor one wall, an old alley, a hurling wall or the gable end of a house all you need is a wall and a ball to play.

We invite clubs to submit photos and videos of their return to play and we will highlight these on our social media pages to create a long overdue air of positivity around our sport that will be full of hope for a future without restrictions and a full return to the sport so many of you love. We want you to make Handball visible again and show everyone that the perfect game is alive and well and accessible to everyone.

Handball Update 23/10/2020

Level 5 restrictions

A chara,

I hope you are keeping well.

Following the government's decision to move the entire country to Level 5 restrictions from Wednesday night for 6 weeks there was some confusion as to what restrictions would be in place with regards individual training in sport which was permitted in the original framework released by the government.

Sport Ireland have now clarified the Level 5 restrictions with regard to sport as follows:

With regards to Level 5 restrictions no training or matches should take place with the following exceptions:

- Non-contact training can continue for school aged children, outdoors in pods of 15 (see guidance below)

- Professional, elite sports and senior inter-county Gaelic games, horse-racing and greyhound racing are permitted to continue behind closed doors.

The decision of Government is that all gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools and other sports facilities must close in the Level 5 restrictions. This includes both indoor and outdoor sports facilities.

Therefore, in compliance with Level 5 restrictions and government instructions all GAA Handball activities are suspended for the duration of Level 5 restrictions. This is to include all games, training, and gatherings.

I have no doubt that this news will come as a huge disappointment to our members especially when we were starting to enjoy our games once more. This is a difficult and uncertain time for all our members but I would appeal to all our members to comply with the level 5 restrictions and government advice to help stop the spread of the virus and enable us to return to action in as short a timeframe as is possible. We will continue to issue updates as they are available.

Non-contact training for school aged children

Specific guidance on non-contact training for school agreed children will be issued by Government. In the interim, the following is advised:

- Underage activity refers to those in primary and secondary school who are aged 18 years and younger

- Participants and coaches may travel beyond the 5km limit to attend training. Car-pooling should continue to be avoided

- Outdoor facilities may open only to allow the activity to take place. Only those participating in and conducting the training session should attend.

Following a request for clarification from Sport Ireland in terms of what sports were classified as elite and inter county the following clarification was received.

Professional & Elite Sport is defined as:

- Professional sports people or sports people who participate within professional competition.

- A Member of a high-performance team funded by Sport Ireland.

- Those who compete at major international events including European and World Championships, Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is advised that these are senior athletes only within one of the following categories:

* Athletes on the 2020 International Carding Scheme

* Players on the 2020 Team Ireland Golf Scheme

* Senior riders in Show-Jumping, Eventing & Dressage

* Senior team players in Hockey, Cricket, and Rugby Sevens.

Inter-county sport refers specifically to senior competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association or the Camogie Association.

Please note the following updates in relation to the restrictions:

AGMs- Further guidance will issue in the coming days in relation to AGM's with the current restrictions in place.

GAA Handball Clar - A meeting of GAA Handball Ard Comhairle will take place to discuss the Clar for the remainder of the year and the ramifications for same of the level 5 restrictions in place. Further communication will issue in this regard following this meeting.

GAA Handball Online Shop- Due to restrictions in place around working from home and travel please note that shop orders will not be able to be processed at present.

We encourage our members to continue to abide by the guidelines on social distancing, wearing of masks and sanitizing. As always as this is an ever-changing situation and further updates will be issued when available.

Stay safe and thank you as always for your cooperation.

25/6/2020  Update

Subject: Return to Play Document - Update

A chairde, county secretaries,

Following the announcement by the Irish Government on Friday last all Return to Sport protocols for indoor sports were reassessed with regards to the new measures in place from the 29th June.

We had been informed that we would receive sign off on Monday last but due to the Government announcement this was then pushed back to reassess all protocols in line with the latest Government advice.

We are awaiting final sign off from the Covid19 expert group and have been informed that this will happen at their meeting later today (Thursday) and we will then be in a position to share the return to play document with all members.

Once the document has been shared there will be an opportunity to submit questions before the information webinar for clubs will take place next week.

The phases are planned to begin on Monday 29th June and full information will be available following sign off.

Handball Update

There are a number of competitions/events cancelled for 2020, some currently postponed and some competitions that are under review pending a return to play and our potential financial situation at that time. Any competition/event that is currently under review will be subject to ongoing review as the situation evolves and once a clearer picture on when activities will resume is confirmed, a further decision will then be made as to whether that competition will go ahead. The decision to cancel Féile 2020 is in line with the decision of the National Féile committee to cancel Féile across all associations.

Corona Virus Urgent    Update:      23/03/2020

A Chairde,

Re emails from Croke Park today and the strict guidelines for handball.

Social distancing is very important but also note there is NO insurance in place for players or facilities as the GAA has suspended all insurance.

There should no meetings, training, training games or matches taking place at this present time.

However  this is not the case as it has been highlighted  that players are still playing and training together.

This needs to stop immediately and it is up to every Senior officer (Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer) in their clubs to make sure that all are complying.

The future of peoples lives are in our hands. Please Safeguard the Handball Community and limit the spread of the Corona virus and show respect for our Healthcare workers who are in the front line.

====================================================

All Counties please note that the 12/13 Day 2 planned for Clare & 14/15 , 16/17 planned for Dungarvan  Sunday 15th March have been Postponed. It is recommended to suspend all Juvenile Fixtures and events until further notice which entails large group settings to safeguard the Handball Community and limit the spread of the Corona Virus. We will continue to Monitor & update as developments arise from the Nationsal Health Emergency team , the HSE & the WHO. Further announcements re all Championships expected from Handball Ireland in the next few days.

Tipp County Reps for 2015 now up on County Fixtures page:

The game of Handball was described at the beginning of the Century as a test of strength, stamina & above all skill. It is a beautiful combination of safe bodily & mental exercise - the eye sees, the mind directs & the hand executes. There is scarcely a muscle of the body but gets healthful exercise.
