This workshop is organized as part of the 10th International Conference on Advances in Computer Entertainment Technology (ACE2013), in Enschede, 2013.
The organizers are Maarten H. Lamers, Fons J. Verbeek, and Peter van der Putten from the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS), Leiden University, the Netherlands. They teach a.o. at the Media Technology MSc program, a collaboration with the Royal Academy of Art (Den Haag), which focusses on the role and employment of creativity in scientific research.
Maarten H. Lamers
Maarten Lamers is assistant professor at LIACS, with a background in artificial intelligence. His current scientific interests include bio-digital hybrid systems and unconventional forms of science. Among other courses, he teaches the Creative Research and Perceptualization courses at Leiden University's Media Technology MSc program, and lectures about Arduino in various programs. Maarten holds a computer science Master’s degree (1993) from Utrecht University and a PhD from Leiden University (2001) after researching neural network techniques for data analysis in environmental epidemiology. Outside the university’s walls, Maarten co-founded the LaserMaxx lasergame brand, a major brand of lasergames -- he still designs game technology.
Fons Verbeek
Fons Verbeek is associate professor, biologist and computer scientist. In addition to researching imaging and bioinformatics, he teaches the Human Computer Interaction course in the Media Technology MSc program. Furthermore, he is very engaged in supervising students in their research.
Peter van der Putten
Peter van der Putten is a lecturer and researcher at LIACS. His background is in artificial intelligence and he is particularly interested how intelligence can evolve through learning, in man or machines. Amongst others, he teaches New Media New Technology in the Media Technology program, which leverages tinkering as the core educational approach. Peter has a MSc in Cognitive Artificial Intelligence from Utrecht University and a PhD in data mining from Leiden University, and combines academic research with applying these technologies in business.
