There is one question that I ask first-time students when they come to their first lesson. “Why do you want to sing? All of them answer, “Because I love to!”
That says it all for me.
My calling and passion is teaching students the fundamentals of healthy voice production; essentially, how to sing for a lifetime. Healthy, beautiful singing is an athletic endeavor comprised of specific skills that can be developed by anybody, no matter their experience or talent. I teach healthy singing using a variety of techniques and repertoire tailored to each student.
I was fortunate to have had this kind of training early in my vocal development. Even as a youngster I realized the benefit of healthy singing and determined at a young age that I would keep doing what I loved for the rest of my life: SING!
My training and experience encompass bel canto, musical theatre, pop styles and even runway modeling. I spent many years mastering vocal performance and developing my vocal pedagogy technique. Through the years I have developed my approach to nurture every student’s abilities and lovingly address their weaknesses. Some students are so shy they cannot get up in front of an audience; some have so much energy that they need to learn ways to control themselves on stage; some have problems freeing their voice; some need to learn breath control. Each student comes with a different set of physical and emotional conditions, and I treat each student with respect and love.
Healthy, beautiful singing is a journey for everyone; nobody arrives and stops moving forward. I believe that no matter what a student’s circumstance, every student needs to constantly revisit basic principles of singing. Nobody wants to be buried under an avalanche of techniques and intimidating terms. I am quite specific and demanding in my studio, but mine is a safe environment. Students in my studio learn to achieve their potential as a human being with a certain set of gifts and challenges. They learn a lot about who they are, how to love themselves and how to lead confident, beautiful lives through music.
For any age, young or old: my belief is Till The Fat Lady Sings!
