Tijeras Creek Watershed Collaborative
History
Formed in 2016, the TCWC brings together people from government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and east mountain communities to restore and preserve ecological and cultural resources within the Tijeras Creek watershed. The initial work of the group has been to establish a structure for the collaborative, agree on project priorities and to build a timeline and process for achieving these goals.
The work of the collaborative is focused on three main priority areas. The three sub-topics of focus are the natural resources, cultural landscape and community education. Specific cluster groups have formed to work on establishing a framework and goals for each priority area. Numerous restoration projects and environmental education projects are ongoing within the watershed, and further coordination, documentation and collaboration amongst various stakeholders will result in improved conditions and management of the entire watershed. Data collection and storage is a major concern for the collaborative and working to bridge institutional and bureaucratic barriers to information is another key concern.
