Recommendations for success in my class

I am a firm believer that there is an opportunity for true success within every one of our students. For some students that is a solid C and for some students that is an A+. Regardless of the student, the common denominator for their success is the effort that they put in to the work inside and outside of class.

In addition to putting in the appropriate amount of effort into Spanish class, below is a short list of other recommendations that I have for students to achieve their ideal grade.

  • Consistent attendance at school - This may seem obvious for many parents and students, however it is better said than unsaid. Daily attendance is integral to a student's development of information, concepts and ideas.
  • Communication with the teacher - I am happy to communicate with both students and parents as to a student's progress in my class. Students should feel free to contact me at any time, especially before and after class. Parents, please see below about contacting the teacher.
  • Seeking extra help - As a teacher, I am constantly stressing the opportunity for students to seek extra help if they need it. Extra help should not be looked at as a punishment, but rather an opportunity to ask questions and work more closely with a teacher. The vast majority of my students who stay for extra help before a quiz or a test achieve grades, on average, of a letter grade or more above their normal grade average.
  • Extra materials - Lastly, I also recommend that students obtain extra materials in order to gain mastery of their foreign language study. A simple Spanish - English/ English - Spanish dictionary (75,000 to 150,000 translations) is more than adequate for your child's course and can be reused throughout college. Other study and reference books are available in the Reference Section of any book store. For cheap used books also consider alibris.com.

Contacting the teacher

Please feel free to contact me about your student's progress at any time during the school year. My contact information is up-to-date on the Masconomet website and also here on my website.

The best way to contact me initially is via email. If you would like to speak on the phone, I would be more than happy to do that, but please try to email me first.

Please do not be concerned if I don't get back to you immediately. At times throughout the school year I become inundated by requests from students and parents (especially around when grades close). I will make my best effort to return your email or phone call within 48 hours of receiving it.
