History
There has been a surgery at Thistlemoor Road for the last 50 years. We look after patients from Peterborough and the surrounding areas.
Dr Nalini Modha took over running the surgery in 1994 when the surgery looked after 700 patients. At this point care was being delivered from a single terraced house. Over the years the site has been developed and extended to help the surgery to look after 30,000 patients from purpose built facilities. We work closely with neighbouring practices within the community to provide a network of care across the local community. We currently host a community based endoscopy, colonoscopy, ultrasound clinic and aortic aneurysm clinic and are keen to further develop community services to provide care closer to our patient homes.
The practice has worked at a national level with groups relating to healthcare assistants, nurses and medical assistants. We continue to contribute to local and national work in this way.
Dr Nalini Modha has been honoured in the New Years honour list in 2020 with an MBE for her services to General Practice. This award is dedicated to the support she has had over the years from an amazing group of patients as well as staff. She collected the award in September 2021 from Windsor.
Training
We strongly believe in an ethos of teaching both within our own staff and externally. Three of the doctors have postgraduate certificates in teaching medical education with a fourth doctor working towards this. We teach medical students from Cambridge University and Imperial College School of Medicine and have done this for over 16 years.
The students will ask you permission to confirm you are happy to see them. This is voluntary. Please feel free to decline if you are not happy with this, or ask to speak to one of the supervising doctors.
The practice has been re-approved as a Training Practice which allows us to help develop the next generation of General Practitioners and Hospital Doctors. From August 2014 we have been training both GP Registrars and Foundation Year Doctors. These members of staff are qualified doctors and will introduce themselves to you and explain their role within the practice. These doctors rotate every 3-4months and move between different GP surgeries and hospital roles. Your feedback is helpful for their development. Being a training practice has helped our recruitment - in the last year we have recruited 3 local trainees.
Commissioning
The practice is taking a lead role in GP commissioning within Cambridgeshire.
Thistlemoor Medical Centre is a proud member of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group.
We are keen on helping develop the process and believe it will lead to improved, more resource efficient care for our patients and the people of Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
Federation
Thistlemoor is proud to be a member of the federation - Greater Peterborough Network. Greater Peterborough Network is the organisation set up by the Practices around the Greater Peterborough area. Dr Neil Modha is the clinical lead and Chairman of Greater Peterborough Network since stepping down as Accountable Officer from the CCG in 2016.
