Message to our patients – update on the COVID-19 booster programme - March 2022

Across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough the NHS and its partners are working extremely hard to roll out the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme to our communities.

We are focussing on immunising vulnerable children aged 5-11. If you are an adult or waiting for a booster please call 119 or go online, click below for further information:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/how-to-get-a-coronavirus-vaccine/

New appointments are being added every day we have opted back in and so our site will need to be set up again and vaccine will be delivered in due course. Further availability will come online later in the week.

See more about the vaccination programme in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, including the vaccination services: www.thevaccinators.co.uk

Thank you for your continued support.

The team at Thistlemoor

Welcome to Thistlemoor Medical Centre

Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic we have made changes to our service in line with NHS England advice. Please see the specific Coronavirus page for further details and see the bottom of this page, we will continue to update this page to keep you abreast of changes to the service.

Please help us to help you! Even with over 40 clinicians working each day we still run short on our appointments to help you. We therefore want to make sure we have enough information from you to let us know what has happened to make you contact us, how long a problem has been going on for, what you have tried and how you were expecting us to help you. This is the minimum amount of information needed for us to prioritise when we help you as well as consider the best clinciian to book you with.

We still offer face to face appointments for patients who need them for example, where it will add information to help with treatment or making a diagnosis. Cases will be assessed first as this give us the opportunity to help patients without putting them at risk.

Visiting our Practice?

All of our COVID-19 secure measures remain in place with respect to masks and hand hygeine. This is needed to protect staff and vulnerable patients.

Patients are asked to continue to wear a face covering, unless they are exempt.

This follows the national Infection Prevention Control (IPC) Guidance for all healthcare settings and will help to ensure the safety of our staff and patients at all times.

Thank you for your continued support.

There are also appointments available at the City Care Centre hub. If you would like a telephone or video consultation in the evening or weekend you can book an appointment yourself with the Greater Peterborough Network Hub service by clicking the link and selecting book appointment at the top. This is for a routine new problem only. Many of our Doctors contribute to this workforce in the evenings and on weekends.

We are a central Peterborough General Practice looking after 30,000 Patients from our purpose built single site.

We are a teaching practice and help teach medical students from Imperial College and Cambridge University as well as training doctors preparing to be hospital specialists and General Practitioners.

The purpose of this site is to provide information to our current patients, future patients and people seeking information about our services.

If you are looking for information on how to register with our Practice to allow us to care for you please look at this section. Registration forms are at the bottom of this form - the general form and questionnaire as well as the under 16 year old forms.

We host other services that deliver endoscopy, colonoscopy, ultrasound scanning and aortic aneurysm clinics. If you are looking for information regarding these services please click on the relevant section.

We provide advanced access to our patient population by telephone, video consultations, web and email. Our talented team of healthcare assistants and nurses are also available to help. For patients who do not speak English as their first language we may be able to help through our team of clinical staff from different backgrounds.

CHOICE OF CLINICIAN

Our services are currently extremely in demand and we are seeing over 700 patients a day contact the practice for support on top of the patients we help with long term condition management and procedures. Due to the coronavirus pandemic we are reviewing our access policies to protect our patients. Please see the page 'How to make best use of the Surgery' that explains how our service functions and how you can navigate this.

We continue to aim to allow any patient who wishes to be helped by us to have support. We hope you understand that waiting times could be longer during this period and your choice of clinician could be limited. We are helping patients first by phoning or responding on the internet, if we think a patient needs to be seen then we will call them to the practice for a review.

If you are pregnant and would like to self-refer to the midwife service please follow this link:

https://www.nwangliaft.nhs.uk/maternity/im-pregnant/peterborough-city-hospital-maternity/self-referral-form/

You can refer yourself to support for psychology services, without a referral from your GP.

We normally offer a full general practice service including health promotion clinics for long-term conditions: diabetes, asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), heart disease and high blood pressure. We have worked up ways where the majority of things can be done over the phone and remotely but may need you to come to the Practice for certain checks and for procedures such as blood tests. We also normally offer minor surgical procedures on site to remove skin lesions and insert and remove contraceptive devices but this continues to be paused at present. iCASH in Peterborough provide this service for contraception please contact them on 0300 300 300. Please see this section for more details. We are providing extra evening and weekend appointments over the winter period through NHS England's commissioning of extra appointments. These appointments will be pre-booked only and will be focussed on chronic disease appointments, we are reviewing how these can be delivered without the need for patients to attend the surgery.

Afternoon appointments are available from 3:30pm - 5:00pm daily but these appointments may have filled up by the morning depending on demand and then we will be able to help urgent cases only. This is except for Thursday when there is an emergency surgery only in the afternoon. Unfortunately there are a limited number of appointments and we will need to access each request for an appointment to consider how we might be able to help you without bringing you to the practice.

We promote and would like all of our patients to take an active interest in maintaining their own health as far as possible with assurance that expert help and advice will be available when necessary at both primary and secondary care levels.

We have a car park located at the rear of the surgery with a capacity for around 160 car spaces. This is accessed from Lincoln Road between the Car sales site and the community church on Lincoln Road just beyond the triangle. Please see the maps on this page for further orientation.

The surgery is centrally located within easy reach of bus routes and there is a chemist close to the surgery.

The premises have been extended and modernised to provide comprehensive facilities for patients. The surgery is fully computerised and linked electronically to the hospital and community services.

We are looking to further develop our services and care and are keen on your suggestions. Please see the "Patient Participation Group" section for further information.

Dental Problems

The NHS pays for special dental services to help for you and your family. We are getting a lot of enquiries about dental problems. As a service we are not able to help you with dental problems, you are best seeing a professional who has been trained in dental problems. If you contact us with a dental problem you will be signposted to other services. If you have a dentist - please contact your own dentist about this problem. If you don't have a dentist you can contact the emergency dentist at Midgate on 0300 555 6667, option 1, please contact them as close to 8am as possible, if you have the ability to travel they also have branches in Huntingdon and Cambridge.

If you still need help you can contact 111 and they can sign post you to dental services.

The car park is accessed from Lincoln Road. Please use the access road which is found between the two tall trees in between the Car Sales site and the Community Centre. Please see the images below for an area map.

Please note that we have installed a parking management system - called 'Parking Eye'. The purpose of this is to ensure that our patients have good access to car parking at all times. There is no financial benefit to the practice, the doctors or the staff from having this system. Since installing it we have been monitoring car parking availability and are pleased that spaces are available for our patients. If you should over stay or not enter your details correctly please let us know and we can assist you. Please do not park in the staff car park as tickets for parking in the wrong location will not be cancelled.
