Perhaps like many others on SL, we had a number of homes, and have owned several pieces of land since we joined SL in the Summer of 2005.
First Mistake
At first I was wary of trying out the building tools and asked a friend to build us a house, on a seaside plot we had bought.
However, the house was a disaster. It looked ridiculous, and could not be altered. Furthermore, the friend insisted it belonged to him and would not transfer ownership. So we deleted it off the land and I decided, if you want something done, best do it yourself!!
My Own House
I quickly learned the basics and created a little beach-house with a deck overlooking the sea. But we were newbies, and had not learned the tricks of the trade, when it comes to buying land.
The reason it was so cheap was because two single pieces had been sold to advertisers.
One day we arrived to find a huge ugly advertising sign right outside our door, blocking our view of the sea.
Here's Eagle's Point, Buck's Island. It had a railway travelling all around the perimeter, secret caves, pools, wildlife and hills - beautiful and peaceful...for a while!!
The Quality of the Landscape was very primitive compared to today!
Disgusted, I wrote to the man who had erected the sign offering a very fair price for his square of land (and also another woman who owned another single square) and received nothing but abuse in response.
The trader was notorious on SL - his profile picture is alongside.
I reported him to the Lindens. I was quickly learning not to be so trustful and naive. Second Life was turning out to be a NEST OF VIPERS.
And so the beach house was dismantled and the land sold at a loss, and we moved on.
Thankfully, I'd been introduced to Buck Barkley, the supposed working partner of Thunder Lardner, so I took up the matter with him.
A Hilltop Cabin
Our second land purchase early in 2006 was in a hilly region called "Scenic Hills" and our house was on a steep slope, so it was built on stilts.
But once again misfortune struck. In April 2006 A man called Thunder Lardner who had a large property on Scenic Hills offered to buy my property as he wanted to "own the entire sim".
In exchange, he told me, he would give me land and a house on an island he was developing. He also would pay me money for building some commercial properties for him.
It sounded like a fair offer and I accepted. The next day I logged on to find my house gone, my land cleared and no sign of Thunder Lardner or his money (he'd only given me a down-payment).
I wasn't surprised to learn that the Island that Thunder claimed to "own" actually belonged to Buck. But this time I'd found a genuine friend.
Shelbe's "Baby"
This is me in the Summer of 2006 working on building the Pub [see below], but Shelbe visited to show me her new virtual baby, which I get to hold for a little while.
Yes you can not only get married on SL but have a baby, too, complete with ante-natal classes, a nine month pregnancy and a genuine hospital birth experience!!!!
Attendance at the Truth Sim ALM Church
All this while we had been visiting TRUTH sim and knew a number of Christians there. We also attended meetings quite regularly.
That part of the story is told in another set of pages HERE.
But to conclude this page, it was in from August/September 2006 that things started going wrong for us on SL, and we asked for prayer for direction from Benjamin and Mariposa and the church, as we felt we were beginning to lose our way.

A Proper Building Opportunity At Last!
I was lent a plot of land on which to build. I set about building my most ambitious project so far - the Olde English Pub. (Only on an island could I afford to be so wasteful of prims!!)
The finished Pub was a delight, with a little cottage for the Innkeeper, a "snug", a beamed ceiling, a hunky (fake) Bartender and even an outside privvy with newspaper for loo paper.
But things on SL never last.
By the Autumn of 2006, everything changed yet again. Buck had to sell the island, so I was forced to move as well, and this time no free land to build on!
