31st Annual Montgomery’s County Executive Ball

The Tech Savvy Group supported the 31st Annual Montgomery’s County Executive Ball for the Benefit of the Montgomery County Arts & Humanities held at the Bethesda North Marriott Conference Center in Bethesda, Md. While supporting Montgomery County Arts, the ball provided an opportunity for The Tech Savvy Group to network with public, corporate and non-profit leaders. Over 750 movers and shakers attended the Ball and helped us raise funds for arts education in Montgomery County. The 2016 Montgomery County Executive Ball was chaired by Montgomery County First Lady, Catherine Leggett, who is joined by co-chair Dottie Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Auto Malls. Thanks to the participation of the area’s individuals and leading companies, the 2016 Executive’s Ball funds will be matched thanks to a generous matching grant of up to $200,000.
30th Annual Lombardi Gala

The Tech Savvy Group attended the 30th Annual Lombardi Gala at The Washington Hilton. This gala was an unparalleled celebration to benefit the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The proceeds from the Gala will go directly to Lombardi to fund the world class research that leads to clinical trials and innovative new treatments that change the lives of people with cancer. The Anniversary Co-chairs were Paul Tagliabue (Former NFL Commissioner Vice Chair, Georgetown University Board of Directors), Jeanne Ruesch (Founder, Ruesch Center for the Cure of Gastrointestinal Cancers, Georgetown University LCCC), and Bill Roberts (President and Chief Executive Officer, WR Roberts Company; Chair, MedStar Health Board of Directors).
The gala leadership included DeMaurice Smith (Honorary Chair-Executive Director, NFL Players Association), Brian Katz (Co-Chair, American Real Estate Partners), Jill S. Kirkpatrick (Event Co-Chair, Serten Advisors), Paul S. Schweitzer (Event Co-Chair, Serten Advisors), Louis M. Weiner, MD (Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center Director), and The Honorable John F. Potter, MD (Lombardi Cancer Center Founding Director). Award recipients were Chris Mortensen, ESPN (NFL Players Association Georgetown Lombardi Award) and Bonnie J. Roberts, Founding Vice-Chair, Lombardi Gala (Margaret L. Hodges Leadership Award).
This black-tie event featured a cocktail reception and renowned silent auction; a raffle for a 2016 NX 200t F Sport automobile; presentation of awards to remarkable individuals for their efforts to fight cancer; and much more. In 2016 the raffle, sponsored by the Washington Area Lexus Dealers, raised $72,000. One hundred percent of the proceeds are used to benefit Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
On December 1, 2014, The Tech Savvy Group supported the 29th Annual Montgomery’s County Executive Ball for the Benefit of the Montgomery County Arts & Humanities held at the Bethesda North Marriott Conference Center in Bethesda, Md. The Montgomery County Executive Inauguration 2014 Ball, “Arts and Flowers”, was co-chaired by Montgomery County First Lady Catherine Leggett and co-chair, Tamara C. Darvish, of DARCARS Automotive Group. Thanks to the participation of so many of the area’s leading companies and individuals, the 2014 Executive’s Ball: “,” raised $150,000 for arts education programming in Montgomery County. This was the largest amount yet raised by the Executive’s Ball. Funds were distributed to 66 small, medium, and large arts and humanities organizations, from theaters, museums, and chorale groups to dance and literary programs.

This gala was an unparalleled celebration to benefit the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Council members Phil Andrews and Nancy Floreen, and Delegate Aruna Miller participated in the North Potomac Community Recreation Center groundbreaking ceremony. The groundbreaking was located at 13860 Travilah Road, Rockville.

The Tech Savvy Group greeted participants at Montgomery County Luncheon TPC Potomac Country Club at Avenel Farm. Suzy Whaley, keynote speaker, was the first woman to qualify and participate in PGA tour event in 58 years — and she was only the third woman to compete in a PGA tour event. The event emcee was journalist and newscaster Leon Harris. Christine Brennan, sports columnist, author and commentator, was the honorary chairwoman. The mission of The First Tee, Montgomery County is to impact lives of young people by providing affordable and accessible golf facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. A key First Tee goal is to support the county’s youth that need a support system by complementing home and school.

The Startup Hoya Challenge offered students an unparalleled opportunity to bring an idea to life or take their current venture to the next level. Both Georgetown Entrepreneurship Initiative participants and audience members have the chance to meet some of DC’s most accomplished entrepreneurs and to interact with fellow entrepreneurs building industry-changing businesses. The eight finalists delivered a six minute pitch followed by three minutes of questions from a panel of distinguished judges.

As a First Tee Montgomery County, Maryland board member, The Tech Savvy Group participated in the 2012 Marilyn Praisner Memorial Golf Tournament at Laytonsville Golf Course in Laytonsville, Maryland. The tournament fundraiser benefits the Montgomery County youth opportunities to develop life skills and to provide access to golf. The day was kicked off with an honorary drive by Kaitlin Klumpp, Marilyn Praisner's granddaughter and Blake High School student.

While supporting Montgomery County Public Library, the ball provided an opportunity for The Tech Savvy Group to network with public, corporate and non-profit leaders. The Montgomery County Executive 2011 Ball, “One for the Books,” was co-chaired by Montgomery County First Lady Catherine Leggett along with Mary Kane, president/CEO of Sister Cities International and former Maryland Secretary of State, and funded entirely by private and corporate donations. Funds raised from the 2011 Ball will go towards supporting the Montgomery County Public Libraries. MCPL is the County’s award-winning library system, which has earned a 3-star rating in the Library Journal Index of Public Library Service, a public library national rating system. Providing information and reference assistance to over 8 million customers a year, MCPL continues to provide high-quality service to our county residents in the face of our nation’s recession. The Tech Savvy Group participated during the DCEW (DC Entrepreneurship Week). DCEW was created to bolster the thriving business community in the Washington DC area; a region that boasts the 5th highest concentration of entrepreneurs in the country (Grasshopper Group, July 2010). DCEW was designed for entrepreneurs by entrepreneurs. Through a series of panel discussions, roundtables and forums designed to integrate educational opportunities with interactive discussions. On June 6, 2011 The Tech Savvy Group attended June 6 Women Celebrating the First Tee, Montgomery County Luncheon at Congressional Country Club. Kathy Whitworth, keynote speaker, holds the record for Most Tournament Victories by a Professional, man or woman, with her astounding 88 LPGA victories. The mission of The First Tee, Montgomery County is to impact lives of young people by providing affordable and accessible golf facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. A key First Tee goal is to support the county’s youth that need a support system by complementing home and school.
On June 3-5, 2011 The Tech Savvy Group President connected with classmates and others at the Georgetown MBA reunion weekend. The Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business reunion activities and events were held at the campus’ Rafik B. Hariri Building. The weekend included an address by President Jack DeGioia, Dean George Daly, Alumni Director Eric Zack, individual class parties, faculty lecture, lunch with your favorite professors, and capped off with All Classes Gala dinner and dancing. On Sunday, Dr. Bill Oetgen and wife, Pam Oetgen, hosted a private brunch for classmates at the Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria, Virginia.

Carolyn Meakem is a philanthropic supporter of the Community Ministries of Rockville’s vision and mission. Community Ministries of Rockville seeks to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable of Montgomery County residents by (1) providing basic services including housing, healthcare, homecare, education, and emergency assistance, with the goal of achieving and maintaining client self-sufficiency, and (2) advocating on their behalf.

On March 14, 2011, The Tech Savvy Group President attended the honorary doctoral degree ceremony and reception in honor of Michael Martin Kaiser, President of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosted by Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia. 25th Annual Montgomery County Executive Ball

The Tech Savvy Group attended the 25th Annual Montgomery County Executive Ball for the Benefit of the Arts& Humanities. While supporting Montgomery County’s arts community, the ball provided an opportunity for The Tech Savvy Group to network with public, corporate and non-profit leaders. Montgomery County Executive, Ike Leggett, and wife, Catherine Leggett, announced there were 800 attendees at this event including Sidney Kramer and his family. Founded in 1985 by Mrs. Betty Mae Kramer, wife of former County Executive Sidney Kramer, the Executive’s Ball is the only event that gives Montgomery County residents the opportunity to aid a variety of non-profit arts and humanities organizations with just one easy gift. Net proceeds from the Executive’s Ball support these organizations in Montgomery County, enabling the presentation of high quality theater, music, dance, visual arts, arts education and humanities programs. Over the past 24 years, the Executive’s Ball has raised over 1 million dollars for these programs.

The Tech Savvy Group attended the DC Entrepreneurship Week/Global Entrepreneurial Week kickoff event. The panel discussion topic focused on “Making A Difference Through Entrepreneurship”; the panelists were Bill Doucas, CEO ELUTIONS; Ted Leonsis, Chairman and CEO Monumental Sports and Entertainment; and Tim O’Shaughnessy, Founder and CEO LivingSocial. Following the panel discussion, the keynote speaker, Ken Langone, shared his entrepreneurial philosophies especially his “win” approach. Ken Langone is a venture capitalist, investment banker, co-founder of The Home Depot and a former director of the New York Stock Exchange.
Georgetown’s 5th Annual Entrepreneurial Alumni Networking Night
The Tech Savvy Group President attended Georgetown’s 5th Annual Entrepreneurial Alumni Networking Night that was hosted by Jeff Reid, McDonough School of Business Director of Entrepreneurship & Real Estate Initiatives. Sweetgreen (www.sweetgreen.com/) founders (Nicolas Jammet, Nathaniel Ru, Jonathan Neman) were this year’s speakers. Sweetgreen is a salad and frozen yogurt restaurant created on “food that fits” philosophy. The motivational founders were introduced by Julia Farr Connolly; the founders shared their guiding principles, course work implementation, startup challenges, and realistic successes.
