Joshua was the second of 7 children of James & Mary Jelly baptised at Appledram between 1755 and 1770. He was baptised on 24 July 1757.
He was the first to marry. Pagham Parish Records show that:
On 8 Dec 1778 the marriage took place at Pagham of Joshua Jelliff & Mary Warnett, both of this parish, by Banns, in the presence of Miriam Godman. Both signed the Register.
Mary Warnett's parents were Hyde & Ann Warnett, married at Bosham in 1738, who lived in Little London, Chichester in 1739 & 1741/2 when their first 2 children John & Joseph were baptised at Chichester Presbyterian & Unitarian Church. By 1746/7 they were at Pagham and Hyde was baptised at Pagham Parish Church. They remained at Pagham but the last 3 babies were baptised at Chichester Presbyterian & Unitarian Church, Mary being the last on 10 Feb 1755/6.
Their first child Joshua was baptised at Pagham 13 Jun 1779, but he only lived 3 years and was buried at New Fishbourne on 8 Feb 1783.
The family were living at New Fishbourne by 1782 . In 1793, the Marriage Licence of his youngest brother Thomas shows Joshua as “Joshua Jelleff of New Fishbourne, miller “.

In 1803 Joshua Jelliffe (or Jelloffe) was Churchwarden at New Fishbourne.

19 Jun 1823 The marriage took place at Chichester St Olave of Thomas Ladkin of this parish & Lucy Jelleff of Chichester Subdeanery, by Licence, in the presence of Joshua Jelleff, Fanny Jelleff.

12 Oct 1825 The marriage took place at Selsey of James Jelleff of this parish & Jane Boniface.
1841 Census: at West street, Chichester shows Joshua 55, Labourer, Mary 55, Thirza 25, female servant, Joshua 80 Independent.
So by 1841, Joshua was a widower, living in West Street, Chichester with his two eldest children. He died in Q3 1844.
