Mediæval-Style Illuminations
I produce two different types of mediæval illuminations: mediæval-inspired pieces and re-creations. I will not reproduce a work that is under copyright. If you have a particular piece you want re-created and it is not under copyright, such as a poem or favorite saying, I am able to prepare it as a piece of artwork for you.
I take pride in my research. I research the art, wording and calligraphy; in this way you are assured that if you request an 16th century Flemish-style document, it will be completely in that style. The time for research is figured into the cost of these documents.
These documents can be executed using the same materials that scribes used in the Middle Ages. Pigments ground and mixed to make paint, 23K gold leaf, and 22K gold paint on vellum or parchment (prepared skin) are some of the materials with which I work that were used by mediæval scribes. These methods and materials can cost a little more, but are worth it, as the results last for centuries. If desired, I can also execute these works with modern substitutes such as archival quality papers, mica paints, and gouaches (a type of paint).
