To get better fluidity:
use Halli splitter and LAV video (and audio) decoders, 64bits version. No 3D3 is necessary. Using ctrl+J we get zero glitches and dropped frames, very fluid indeed.

When the recent items associated with icons in the taskbar and start menu disappear :
go to: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
delete the corrupted (more than 1Mb) file(s)
starting foobar in real time priority

Solved high cpu usage by svchost (netsvcs), the problem was caused by the iphelper service. By disabling the service problem was solved, as described in this thread.
